For the record, 'Rescuers' fans...
SONICTHEBANDICOOT (ON THE "OLIVER & COMPANY" BOARD): "Whether a film was a success or not, almost anything that wasn't from before Walt died, a "Princess" film, "Lion King" or "Lilo & Stitch"-related is pretty much shunned by the company."
Let's run "The Rescuers" through the three/four (depending on how you look at them) factors as to what the goddamn Disney-gone-wrong company pays any *beep* attention to these days:
1. Before Walt died.
"The Rescuers" was released in 1977. Walt died late in 1966. "Rescuers" was released (nearly) 11 years AFTER Walt died. Fail.
2. A "Princess" film.
If you ask me, Penny ought to have the same recognition an "OFFICIAL PRINCESS" has, even though they obviously didn't make her official royalty in the movie, sadly. If they had it would've have a better chance at modern recognition (though even Eilonwy and Kida are generally ignored, especially the former, thank goodness, too. "Black Cauldron" was a *beep* FLOP, goddamnit!, despite being technical royalty in their stories, too). Second fail.
3. "Lion King" or "Liilo & Stitch"-related.
Well, no, it's "RESCUERS"-related, obviously. Third fail of out 3.
ZERO of three. "The Rescuers" is, therefore ignored by the now idiotically evil Disney Co.
While, it's (to my knowledge) impossible to physically resurrect old Uncle Walt at this rate, "The Rescuers" can, potentially, be remade in much the same fashion it was made in '77. Only with the plot rewritten so Penny IS the daughter of a king and queen (heck, maybe Madame Medusa is a Swamp Queen/Witch similar to either the Diamond Duchess in *gaggle**hack* Margery Sharp's second novel, or Mama Odie in "The Princess and the Frog"). Heck, if one wants it to be "Lion King" or "Lilo & Stitch"-related, why not throw in cameos (or, for that matter, SUPPORTING ROLES) by characters from those films; Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, Scar, Zira, Nuka, Vitani, Lilo, Nani and/or Stitch, himself (The latter would be MOST appropriate out of all of these, since Stitch DID make cameos in classic Disney scenes in trailers promoting his 2002 film, including the ballroom from "Beauty and the Beast", the carpet ride from "Aladdin", the opening of "The Lion King" and Ariel's 1st reprise of "Part of Your World").
Other than that, Taran Wanderer 2 COULD simply write a complaint to Disney over the (presumably) disappointing quality of the Blu-Ray (when it is released, and IF it IS a disappointment). Here's hoping you know how to contact them, T.W. 2!!!
