Review of the Blu-Ray (with stills)

http://www.dvdizzy.com/rescuers-2moviecollection.html

Reading this, it's dissapointing that they only have the deleted song from the original on Blu-Ray and leave it off the DVD. It would only take up a small amount of disc space, so I can't see why Disney is doing that. They should learn from Warner Bros., because when they release a film (THE WIZARD OF OZ, GONE WITH THE WIND, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, etc.), they include the extras from past releases in the new release.

Otherwise, I'll wait until I actually see the release to give my thoughts on it.

Yes, this new release is a through disappointment. I can confirm that as I already have that.

The lack of bonus features isn't even the biggest let-down. The fact that Disney chose to clean-up the former VHS and DVD print prevents the film from looking particularly good. In fact, it looks as washed-out and murky as ever, with no trace of the appealing, vivid colors that made it so visually charming back in 1977. This is a major disappointment.

This is my slightly detailed take on it:

Yo, TAR!!! If you REALLY want Disney to give your (and my) favorite Disney animation piece its proper treatment, why don't you a) move back to Europe where the film was alleged to get "un edicino platino" in 2013, b) send off your signed petition to Walt Disney Home Entertainment, so that the U.S. will get its long, LONG-term desire for the film's release or c) write that angry fan-letter to WDHE ranting and raving your nice way through, so that they'll KNOW that fans feel strongly about them fvcking SHUNNING films that weren't made before Uncle Walt died, star Official Princesses, and/or are "Lion King" or "Lilo & Stitch"-themed.

Hopefully THEN, they'll come to their mutherfvcking senses and release the g0ddamned Platinum release in the U.S.

(P.S. Yeah, the second "Rescuers" film sucks d!ck to a rather large extent, and, though not as bad as you insist it is, DEFINITELY should get a SEPARATE FVCKING RELEASE!!!)

*beep* you, "Disney"!!!

Dude, chill out. We knew this was going to happen.

I though you had Taran Wanderer on your ignore list. Do you still have him on ignore? I do and have no intention of taking him off.

No, he doesn't, unfortunately. From time to time he still addresses me as if I cared. Please don't be like him.

As lack luster the release of the Rescuers was, It's still a strong movie to add to your collection. Some people will argue Down under was better but I preferred the 1st one.

I am disappointed in the treatment this 2 disc collection received along with other released around this time. It's sad that they have only focused on the main films and they havent put time into the other movies that were ground breaking. Even a movie like Aristocats didnt get as much as i expected.

Oh well, that being said i bought it anyway, only other copy i own of these movies is on VHS.

This is how the Rescuers has always looked. If you think otherwise, than you simply don't know what you're talking about.

Wrong. And yes, I know exactly what I'm talking about.

One glance at your petition proves without a doubt you have no idea what your talking about in regards to how this film originally looked.
And the fact that you state that the "film has always looked like this" proves to me that you have no idea what you're talking about.

One needs only dig up material from 1977 or as close to that year as possible in order to see a drastic difference between the 1977 appearance of the film and what's on the Blu-ray.

Please, I've only spent the last years of my life collecting material and memorabilia for this particular film, you're not going to barge in here and pretend you're more knowledgeable than me. Thank you very much.

The fact that "The Rescuers" is not a digitally-made film has nothing to do with whether or not it can be updated digitally (it doesn't have to be, but it's an option, and a rather simple one); I should know, I've done it myself on this and many other non-digital films.

EDIT: Unfortunately, my favorite video to showcase from YouTube has been made into a 'private' and therefore unavailable video. We'll just have to wait.

Well, come 2017, it'll be the film's 40TH Anniversary. And when that happens they REALLY ought to give it a better quality release (That said, though, I got the 35th Anniversary Edition DVD for Christmas and the quality of the film itself in terms of visuals is definitely a major step up from the grainy appearance on the previous DVD and for that much I am grateful), one with special features as to how they made the gosh darn film certainly wouldn't hurt.
