Gloria Loring sings 'Candle on the Water,' 'Someone's Waiting for You'
I thought I'd share this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paTfv3ykSZk It's Gloria Loring performing "Candle on the Water" from Pete's Dragon (1977) and "Someone's Waiting from You" from The Rescuers (1977) during the 50th annual Academy Awards Ceremony in 1978.
I don't think the winners were influenced by these live performances, but I have to say Loring's is quite unremarkable; she doesn't bring forward the feelings from either of the two songs. Debby Boone was able to defend her winning song (the forgettable "You Light Up My Life"), I wonder why Helen Reddy and Shelby Flint were unavailable?
The chorus is particularly cringe-worthy during the "transition" between the two songs.
