Should be made into a live action version

This movie seems to be one of those forgotten Disney Classics that one one really talks about. It would be amazing if a live action version was made. Maybe it would explain the backstory of how Penny lost her parents. Maybe Medusa was Penny's mom's friend and that the mom said to Medusa that if anything was to happen to her that Medusa would take care of Penny. Medusa said yes even though she didn't want to because she thought that if the mom died then would get something out of the will. So Medusa stayed friends with them. But when the parents died Medusa was left nothing in the will and refused to take care of Penny so Penny was sent to the orphanage. Medusa then stole a lot of the parent's stuff and opened up a pawn shop with the rest of her stolen merchandise from other places. Medusa then learns of the Devil's Eve in the Devil's Bayou and that Penny's parents had a river boat out there that they used. Medusa then adopts Penny with her new boyfriend Snoops who she is only using for his money and business contacts. Once she has the Devil's Eye she plans on killing Penny because once she has the diamond she won't have to wait until Penny is of age to get her fortune and Penny would know of her evil and illegal acts if she didn't kill her.

This sounds epic! And, yes, I was thinking the same: The Rescuers is tragically not talked about much anymore. Remaking it might not only introduce the story to a new generation of viewers, but help older viewers remember the original masterpiece, too. 

I could see this being a live action, and a pretty darn epic one, if done right.
Fewer and fewer live action remakes are being "done right" these days, but again since we're dreaming here, let's say that The Rescuers was made into a live action - would be so incredible!

Sounds good, but it would be a tall order to be a remake. IMO the best actress for Medusa would be Carol Burnett, if she still is acting...

I wish they would do some kind of remake, either live action or animated like Ice Age or Shrek. I loved this movie as a kid and it's never on nor do you ever hear of it.

I wish they'd restore this film properly once and for all. At this point it would be like watching a whole new movie. A few jaws would drop if the film were finally presented as it was meant to.

As for remakes, I can live without them in any shape or form.

After having the same signature for, what, ten years? I'm not sure what to put here now.

Ericachristine, it's probably never talked about due to John Lasseter's own personal bias against older Disney films. He even pawned off Winnie the Sh!t as the ultimate scapegoat against 2d animation! Sickening, huh?

Taran, yes! The film does need more attention 100% but until all us 2d fans drive Lasseter out of the house that WALT built, we'll probably never see that happen...

PS Walt Disney would most certainly be ashamed to see Pixar not only usurp his house and turn the 2d animators there into hobos on the street, but flat out shun films that Walt and/or his masters made... Like the original Rescuers! 😠

This would be excellent live action---deals with kidnapping, child abuse, robbery, espionage, and who knows what else. Not really typical cartoon fare anyways. I'm sure you could convince most people it was an intended film for adults.
