Original language?

What's the original language of "Inglorious Batstards"? Imdb lists the Italian title, but the main actors are Amercian. So I'm confused.

When I first watched it, I thought it may have been in Italion or another language, then I realized that the entire movie just has poor ENLISH overdubbing for ORIGINAL ENGLISH dialogue.

Throughout the ENTIRE movie. I don't think there's one piece of original audio.

So brutal at one point, I think it was Bo Svensen on his first piece of dialog, sounded like he just got into the front of a huge gymnasium that finally leads into the actual isolation booth to do his overdubs for the rest of the movie.

Many Italian films from the 1970s and 1980s are made that way. It's expensive to record the audio on location, so they would typically record either a crappy audio track or none at all, then have either the actors or others dub the lines in the studio.

I wish the would have had subtitles for the German dialogue. It would have been fun to know what they are saying in some of the scenes.

I would also like to know what language this movie was released in originally.

I saw the Italian version. It has very strange dubs of the Germans, which are mostly spoken by Italians trying to sound like Nazis -- pretty funny. Even the German actor Harmsdorf wasn't dubbed by himself, but by someone with a thick French accent.

Strangely there are no subtitles even for the non-Italian dialogue. Consequently the dialogue was pretty difficult to follow.

Many italian movies do not feature an "original language" version per se. Very often on the set the cast spoke their dialogue in their own language ; and then everything was dubbed. The reason is, of course, that the actors from these movies come from a variety of countries. Plus as was previously said recording sound on set costs a lot.

No dub is truer than the other ; except if one is really supervised by the director.

Most of the German characters in the movie sound German, except for in the opening few scenes where the mortar squads are firing at the Bastards and the commanders are yelling "Feuer". They sounded Italian to me.

About the dubbing, it was definitely annoying. Possibly the most glaring example of this is when Bo Svenson's character is yelling "Left, Left, Left Right Left". It sounded so off.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago on telly while my brother had it on and i noticed Ian Bannen was in it playing an american and it was very clear that his own voice had been dubbed.
