My how things were different in the 1970s


In the opening scene he sees a woman shoplifting some meat. Apparently she regularly does it, so instead of having her arrested he just goes to the cashier and punches in an extra charge for the meat.

These days the cops would beat you until you ended up in the ER for that.

Maybe, maybe not. I think the store detective would probably nab her in the parking lot. Lander's scene was just showing how savvy the character was :)

Landers saw her put the meat in the pocketbook. He probably didn't want to make a scene, seems like a tight knit community. That's why he just rung it up himself. In fact, it is possible Landers knew her-perhaps a neighbor.
