You're giving God a test?

My favorite scene in the movie is the hotel room scene....Its so funny and some of the answers border on heritical for the 1970's....It was quite a philosophical eye opener for a teenager....

My favorite quote is when God is asked was Jesus Christ really the son of God?
and he responds:

Jesus was my son
Buddha was my son
Mohammed,Moses, you, the man who said there was no room in the inn was my son.
And so is the guy who charges 10.00 for a steak in this one?

Anyone else have a favorite?

When I put man on this earth naked I wasnt trying to be cute...I just didnt want to create clothes....With clothes right away you have pockets and with pockets you have to have something to put in them

It was in the early courtroom scene. They show the various preachers on the witness stand, but there is no dialog from them.

My favorite is George Burns asking Denver; "Did you show 'em my card?" :-)

"You take these answers and give them to Reverend Big Mouth, and you say that God says he's a phoney."

"If they mean will be an an end of the world, I'm certainly not going to get into that." (BTW, I think that was put in as a way of saying, "You want to know what the end of the world will be like? Read your Bible").

"I refuse to believe that I imagined a voice on a car radio that's been busted for two months!" (I'm paraphrasing. I've forgotten the real quote, but I think it's funny, anyway).

"I know how hard it is in these times to have faith. If you find it hard to believe in Me, maybe it would make it easier to know that I believe in you".

LOL - excellent.

Haven't seen this movie in years. Reading these quotes brings it all back! :-)

We should actually take to heart the things that were said and this world would be a bette place.

Like Jesus was my son, Mohammed was my son etc...

Just my 2 cents worth.

I heartily agree...I first saw this movie when i was 19 and it really broadened my mind theologically speaking...it was one of the first things that really set me to thinking about a lot of the big questions and finding more open minded answers than the ones i had been raised with. And the movies narrative style allows it to be watched and appreciated by anyone....

I watched it last night again via On Demand, so many great lines:

"You're gonna get God arrested." My son is that age now and that's easily something he'd say.

"I...I got no ball!"

Or when God asks "Am *I* sure?" when Jerry asks him about his shaving nick.

Denver was just perfect in this role as he practically embodied the era. Little things like not wanting to wax the cucumbers ("It's...it's not honest!") or the look when he's confronted about all this "talking to God crap." As a collector, I'l love to get ahold of those vintage skateboards his kids rode, they really don't make the wood decks like that anymore.

I know someone else mentioned it, but I do remember the scene when they were pouring over the answer that God sent back ("Hope I get an A"). It's really quick, bit it's there.

chcruz-1, you didn't finish my favorite quote of the film.

"If they mean will there be an end of the world, I'm certianly not going to get into that. There'll be a lot of yelling and screaming and I don't need that anymore than you do."

There's also another one.

"$12.00 for steak? Who would have thought? For me cows were an afterthought, just to give new mothers a break."

I just watched the show myself ( I love it) and laugh at the part when GOD refers to Reverand Big Mouth and says: if he wishes to make money then he should sell shoes.

reply

That is my favorite quote, too.
It always makes me laugh.
Yelling and screaming? Who needs that?
Even God has a sense of humor.

I quote this old movie constantly.

I loved where God called Reverend Willie Williams, "Reverend Big Mouth" and that if he wants to make money he should sell shoes.
