One thing this movie got right.
Denver: Why pick me? Im not even religious.
God: Neither am I.

Yep...volumes have been spoken to explain that religion is just about a building you go to. God dwells everywhere.

The Almighty, through the personage of the beloved George Burns, tells John Denver's Jerry; 'you have the aura of goodness about you'. (or words to that effect)
Seeing this film now 34 years after it was released gives me greater pause for thought. I saw "Oh, God!" in a theater in the Fall of '77 when I was 21. Now, as a presumably mature adult, the message of the film resonates more deeply for me.
My fiance and I attend Lakewood church and we're taught to shun religion as a man made construct, the result of man's folly that was not intended by God. Instead we're taught relationship, relationship with the one and only God.
shareIt's actually:
Jerry: I'm not religious.
God: So?
Then later:
Jerry: I don't belong to a church.
God: Neither do I.
