You Know What's Pure Genius About This Movie?

Is that if the almighty ever came to Earth, is there anyone more perfect to come and pay a visit to & use as your spokes person than John Denver?! As for me I sure hope no one ever tries to remake this film, I really do, no one could ever pull off & be believable in the lead as the late John Denver was. He just comes across as that kind of guy, you hit yourself in the head and say "of course!!" who better? Pope John Paul? Benedict? Mother Theresa? NO!! John Denver! naturally. He just exuded "nice guy/decent human being" from every pore of his body. His peformance wasn't going to win any academy awards, and may have been understated but it was pure casting genius on the producers part to get John for this. That's my two cents anyway, you guys may be of differing opinions.

I have to completely agree with you. I don't think there is anyone that is able to come off as wholesome and does not seem like he is try to sell you on a persona. He just IS a good guy. No more. No less.

John Denver was an excellent cast for the role. I think his performance and kindness also flowed out whenever he did the specials with the Muppets too. There was something about John Denver when he'd talk in the movie that grabbed your attention.

And he had a rockin' bowl-cut.

Clark Gable is Rhett Butler, Peter Sellers is Inspector Clouseau, Jack Nicholson is Randall P. McMurphy and John Denver is the guy God wants to talk to. This is definitely a role only John Denver could play.

When I still lived in the Philippines, a very popular daily noontime show hosted a John Denver sing-a-like contest for months.

I couldn't remember if the contest was to promote a music album but it was years after this movie.

Finals day was an enormous success with John as the judge of the top finalists. Of course, he performed live. When the hosts asked him for another song, he wonderfully obliged.

The female host kinda fell in love with him on the spot and she kissed him on the cheek and he kissed her back. And then one of the male hosts kissed John on the cheek and whooped it up on stage.

I mean everybody fell in love with John Denver that day.

Yes. The CASTING for this movie was pure genius... Brooks and Allen would have made it a farce and not the gentle movie that was finally made.
