Wow what a lame movie!

Don't get me wrong I love this era, love old movies, love classic actors etc.... Hadn't seen this one since I was a kid. What a horribly outdated ridiculous S L O W movie!! The scene on Dinah Shore was ridiculous. This was just a bad movie!

Um yes I heard the DialogUE. I get the point and the message, it doesnt take away the fact that the filmaking was still ridiculous.

Wow one of those who can't handle if someone's opinion doesn't jive with theirs eh? You're gonna be awfully lonely if you continue that way of thinking.

reply

Nope sure don't, sorry. That's not the way it works....you don't need to justify your opinion on something. You either like it or you don't and in this case I didn't. It's an extremely outdated movie that just doesn't hold up well. Period.

Thanks for the laugh!!

Cali's just mad cause she can't understand a movie that has a plot. ;)

Will you fight for freedom, or against it?

I agree in one respect....the typically 70's cinematography doesnt hold up well....and in searching my memory back to 79 when I first saw it, it wasnt terrific even then....But the script, direction, and performances lifts it above any inadequacies that it might have

Also I think it has dated in one other way....which is that mainstream media is far more openminded and tolerant about religion than it was in 1970's...people coming to the film now simply have no idea how eye opening some of the things this movie said were back then, but I dont think its fair to hold against the movie progress that it helped create

Very few movies are perfect in every respect...I can pick holes in virtually all of the AFI"S top 10...but lifes to short...Id rather look at the things I like about the movies....and I like this movie

It is not our abilities that make us who we are...it is our choices

What are you talking about??? The mainstream media and Hollywood aren't tolerant in the least nowadays. Everything coming out of Hollywood for the last 15 years at least, portrays Christians or anybody who even believes in God as a fool nowadays. If they treated atheists, Jews, Muslims or any other religion as lousy as they treat Christians every troublemaking ACLU type group would be up in arms.

reply

@ridgerunner

That is SO not true---if anything, Muslims get stereotyped as nothing but terrorists to the 9th degree, and pretty much anybody whose religion isn't from the West. The media is mainly pro-Christian (in the U.S.,anyway) so I don't where you're getting this "Christians are under attack" nonsense unless you're around way too many of these Christian right-wing narrow-minded fundamentalist wackos who think the world is going to hell just because everything/everybody dosen't fall in line with their close-minded view of things.

I was going to say this, but you said it for me. So, thank you! You are spot-on!

Folks today like to boast that we're living in times of tolerance and "open-mindedness" but just try and disagree with their PC views by expressing your own thoughts, and see how "open-minded" they are then! Yeah, the whole idea that these are the best times for everyone is just PC propaganda. Cause for those who think different from the majority ALWAYS get put down. So, yeah... nothing could be further from the truth.

We were much more tolerant in the so-called intolerant past.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Outdated or not, it brings back A LOT of memories from my teen years. Would I like to live in 1977 again? Up to a certain point, yes.

What movies do you like?

it wasn't that bad

You must be someone who sees junk films like Ace Ventura and Austin Powers and laugh your fat *beep* off. Burn in hell, jerk!

it's OK if it's slow-God has all the time in the world.BTW for someone with no acting experience,i thought John Denver was very good.

The MESSAGE of this movie was SPOT ON, then and NOW, and for all time to come.

The acting, the way it was filmed, etc. is irrelevant.

The message of God is timeless.

That is what this movie is all about.

If you need to dissect the movie into its componenets then you missed the core point of why this movie was made. At least from a Godly point of view.

Dear meincali: I've read through enough of this thread to come here to let you know you're an idiot two years late. Making fun of someone else's preferred entertainment because you don't like something is about is lame and idiotic as it gets.

I disagree totally. Today people have the attention span of a gnat or mayfly or something. Do you have ADD? Not enough explosions or car chases for you?

I agree w/ JCC, The message of this movie is so spot on, it knocked my socks off. I think this movie is pretty close to perfect.

I enjoy this film & the cast was wonderful. It explores ideas, religion, concepts, philosophy, spiritual beliefs. All very intriguing topics to me.Nice break from the tidal wave of car chases, special FX,violence that proliferate the vast majority of films.
