Where and how can I see this film?
I've been searching for this film since 2007 and finally found it via the library system of Ohio. I'm in Cleveland and my library was able to ship it in from Toledo. Check your state library system

Netflix has it.

I'm on Netflix right now and it's not turning up in search ... you can only purchase, not stream, on Amazon ...
shareNetflix just notified me that Looking for Mr. Goodbar is NEVER going to be available. I had been in my Saved DVD queue which seems to be the place where unavailable movies go until they become available.
Either Netflix is somehow changing their policy and ditching the saved queue concept (unlikely, I still have a dozen there) or Looking... is on some never-to-be-released again out of print list.
I sometimes wonder if its just rights that complicate this or if somehow stars like Keaton or Gere want to suppress a film for whatever the reason -- not the image they want to present or a performance they want forgotten. Keaton *might* have that pull, but Gere seems unlikely. Why I don't know, Keaton's performance was strong even if the subject matter was controversial.
I suspect this might have been true of "The Panic in Needle Park" and "Cruising" but both of those eventually turned up. The latter was very controversial when it was released.
I know Looking... *has* been released before, I remember seeing it on VHS, so I'm dubious of the rights angle, although perhaps the rights were VHS specific or based on some kind of short-term contract that expired and the parties involved can't agree on terms.
I still cannot find it. Please post a link.

I just watched it for the first time. Just now finished it.
I had heard so much hype about it, I guess I was expecting more.
If I hadn't, I think I would've liked it more.
I also have to remember that when it came out, it was controversial.
It does make me want to read the book.
Anyway, it's out there to watch.
And even though I knew what happened at the end, I didn't know how and was surprised.
I got it on Ebay but there was only one copy available, likely copied by the seller as it came in a thin case with a photocopied sleeve. Just luck that it was there when I went looking, I guess.
