When this film was first released is was an 18. I have a PG rated version of the film. I know there is still an 18 rated version cause the cheap budget DVD was made and it was an 18.
Whats the difference between the PG and the old 18 rated version?
I'd like to know this too, I've seen an 18 rated DVD floating around, yet I remember seeing this as a kid on satellite television in the late morning, it wasn't partiularly violent and there wasn't any swearing to speak of. If there's a different cut of this, I'd love to see it again for giggles.

I picked up a copy off ebay and the video is indeed rated 18 (UK version, if that makes any difference). No idea why - the only explicit gore is the "hand-shooting" bit, although I agree that it's quite disturbing in general. I'd expect a 12 or 15 rating at tops. Although it's worth pointing out that the blurb on the front of the video says something about the spiders coming 'from the furthest reaches of the galaxy', which is slightly different to the plot of the film. Maybe they were getting it confused with 'The giant Spider Invasion'.

I think that was just a reference to the popularity of Shatner, you know, Captain Kirk...
ive got this shat flik (get it shat shatner) ok bad joke any way i piked this up in the pound shop along with 2 uncut lucio fulci clasics. ok the movie sucks, but it is a litle intence in places and the water tower bit and the dead ppl and animal deaths and the efects on biten people id saay deserve a 15 at most, look at resi evil and thats 15 its far more violent and gory.
Didn'tanyone notice the bit of nudity in the shower scene with the female scientist? I was pretty shocked to see it in what I thought was a pretty tame movie. But, once I learned of the rating, it made more sense. I can't imagine why it was necessary to include a "peek" of her, but I guess it helped to sell tickets!
Could be, I suppose, but still, a side view (not even a frontal) of a bare breast that lasts for all of two or three seconds hardly justifies an 18 rating.
