Maybe you lack some background info to appreciate "Fistful of Yen". FoY is an excellent parody of the classic Bruce Lee movie "Enter the Dragon". Watch those movies back to back (EtD first), like I did 2 hours ago, and you will roll on the floor laughing.

shareLOL...there you go. If you're not an Enter the Dragon lover, then some of these gags would probably fall flat and have no context, because this wasn't a spoof of many or all Kung Fu movies, it was a scene-for-scene takeoff of Enter the Dragon.
Such as when Loo puts the toy robot down to scare the thugs out of the control room. If you didn't see Bruce Lee did the same thing with a rattlesnake, then this scene might seem stupid to you.

I'd seen Kentucky Fried Movie several times but not Enter The Dragon. When my boyfriend insisted that I watch the 'classic movie' a couple years ago I laughed all the way through - almost every scene. He got annoyed.

shareI think Fistful of Yen is the best part of the movie. I thought that before I even saw Enter the Dragon. When you see KFM before ETD, Enter the Dragon becomes far funnier than it is supposed to be.
shareParts of it were too funny but it lasted way too long. I think they could have cut it down by a good 15 or 20 minutes and put some more skits in the movie.
But I like toast. It's the muffins that must be stopped.

I know this thread started 3 years ago but I had to comment on this.
I loved this movie the first time I saw it, but the line "take him to Detroit" was confusing to me then. I had no idea why that was funny. I remember leaning over asking my friend, whats wrong with Detroit and he said, no idea. Of course back then, I was only 14 at the time (my friends and I manage to sneak in the theater at the Navy Base where it was playing). It wasn't till a year or 2 later when I finally got the joke (however, unfortunately, Cleveland became the city no one wanted to go to by then)
I have to find the movie and watch it again, I am sure its probably lame now but back then, I thought it was the funniest movie I ever saw (and having all that nudity wasn't bad either. <G> )
Ya, seeing Enter the Dragon makes it for me. For a low budget movie, I thought A Fistful of Yen was put together very well.

This movie made fun of all genre movies of the time. Some of those movies were the Karate movies, as well as the Blaxploitation movies. Pretty hard to not make fun of those movies, without having some element of race.
That's Armaggedon made fun of all the cheezy white guys in the diaster movies of the times (Earthquake, Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure, etc..). They also mocked the WHITE talking heads on the evening news...so are those racist too? Naah, has to be non-white to be deemed racist, right?
But as to the racist comments about Fistfull of Yen....NOT A CHANCE!
I saw the movie with my best friend who is Korean, and he was dying laughing.
In fact, there were some inside things that made it even funnier for him:
Korean Grand Master Bong Soo Han, who played Dr Klahn, is barking out orders during the final massive fight scene, supposedly telling his henchman to attack Loo...exactly as was done in Enter the Dragon.
However, not speaking Korean, I did not realize until my buddy told me, because he was laughing out loud hysterically, exactly what he was saying;
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Pizza, GET HIM!
He was essentially just blurting out American foods in Korean, and then adds a "Get Him" at the end.
That is not racism...that is comedy GOLD!
