This Era In Japanese Horror

I believe this is the only non-anime, non-Godzilla Japanese horror film I've seen that was made after the 60s but before Ringu. Gimme some others?

I thought Sweet Home(1989) was pretty cool. It's kinda similar to House, but more serious. And like House, the kills doen't go by a specific formula. In Ringu/The Ring, or Ju-On/The Grudge, kills happen a certain specific way, and only in that specific way. It's not like the ghosts possess a television set and make it eat one of the victims, make stuffed animals come alive and pull someone apart or make a rod-iron fence come alive and skewer a victim. Those are things more akin to what happens in House and Sweet Home(while they DON'T actually happen, it's just examples of the type of horror those two movies share). I'd liken it to what Freddy Krueger would be KNOWN for, as he usually kills kids in unqiue ways. I enjoy those types of movies. It's a sense of horrific imagination.

The guinea pig movies though I wouldn't categorize them as horror. They are basically torture porn without any real story.

House is pure fun. Even the director admits. The studio wanted a Jaws like film, and the director came up with a killer house as a substitute. This movie is far from pretentious.

If I watch Jigoku now, maybe my opinions will differ as I wrote this comment a while ago.

How about Entrails of a Virgin and Entrails of a Beautiful Woman both from the 1980's.
