I love the effects

I'm not terribly fond of gory horror movies, but House felt like everything I could ever want from one. Some people complain that the effects aren't very good. It's a fair complaint. By most objective measures they are rather poor. Personally though, I prefer them this way.

I don't think this movie would work quite as well if it had better effects. I think the vibrant, amateur-looking effects make the movie a ton of fun to watch. It's a wacky movie, so wacky effects fit right in. If they had been more detailed, it could have become a bit too gross and reduced the fun-factor. Just my opinion, but like I said I don't enjoy gory horror movies very much.

Another thing is that House reminds me of my early childhood memories of horror movies. I didn't quite understand them at the time. They seemed surreal, just like House is. Memories also fade and get distorted. In that sense, the rudimentary effects fit in just perfectly. In a way, the movie presents impressions of violence rather than straight-up recreations.

Does anybody else feel this way?

Yeh... good point. I liked it too. And I didn't know how to describe it, but impressions of violence is good.
