Order is the virtue...

Somewhere in the film Gabriele says "L'ordine è la virtù dei mediocri" ("Order is the virtue of the mediocrity"). I like that! I always thought it was written for the script, but it seems to be Shakespeare. Does anyone know which play it's from?
TIA
Steven

is it that? Is the word here 'order' or some other word?
Glad to read your entry. I just saw the movie and that line lingers in my mind.
If you are able to confirm it, do write it down here.

It actually means something more like "Order is the virtue of mediocre" ("El orden es la virtud de los mediocres"), I don't know if I could put it any other way, but it refers to mediocre people, not to plain mediocrity.

reply

You're absolutely right, it should be "Order is the virtue of the mediocre".
