way better

I think this version is funnier than the new one. the new one seems not so family friendly as the older one.

I have to agree that I like the original a bit better too. However, the main reason for that is the AMAZING performance by Ms. Barbara Harris. She was one of the most genius comedic actresses and her characterization here is magnificent. And wow, I hope I look that good when I'm 40. She was just gorgeous!

The reason why the first one seems more family friendly is because a 'traditional; family is represented. Since the film was made womans roles have changed significantly and there has been a breakdown of the nuclear family. I am glad that the new version portrays the hectikness of modern life and the changes in the family structure i think this is more realistic than the 1970s version. Also the graphics and special effects are very bad.

Amazing? The woman defies gravity! She dances! She skates! She waterskis! I guess in order for the premise to work you needed the talents of these two tremendously talented actresses. The sight gags are terrific, especially the aquacade scene, and although foster and harris never really acted EXACTLY like each other throughout, i still believe it to be a comic tour de force. Oh ya, ms. harris was the hottest milf EVER.

Has anybody seen the 1995 TV version starring Shelley Long?

I know that it might be heresy to say this, but I thought that it was the best of the three versions.

I watched the 1976 original last night and couldn't believe how lame it was, even though I remembered it as being a classic of its type at the time.

Jodie was great, but the best thing about the DVD was the featurette when she talked about working in Disney movies. Very interesting

I've seen both versions, and the older version is WAAAAAAAAAAAYYY funnier as well as more entertaining. Oh, by the way, I saw the newer version first, so, it's not as if I have an inaccurate memory from my youth that is biasing my opinion.

I've....seen things you people would'nt believe; Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

That is what I like to hear!
The older version has everything you want: Slapstick comedy; Psychological comedy; innuendo; fresh, tasteful jokes; good morals; and great message; and special effects that I only realized the last time I watched it.
Jodie and Ms. Barbara HArris were so great as well. So was John Astin, Patsy Kelly, and the best of the co stars was Kaye Ballard and Laugh in's Ruth Buzzi.
Also I saw this film about fourteen or so years ago when I was about seven or eight, and I had the BIGGEST crush on Young Lucy Ewing from Dallas!!!
This film is a classis in every sense of the word. The two remakes are atrocious and should be burned and destroyed in everysense of those words!

I am considering nothing less than WORLD DOMINATION!

I guess I need to see the remakes to fairly critique them, but the fact is the cast has little appeal to me. The original "Freaky Friday" is a '70s chestnut that doesn't really translate to the modern era. It's not a perfect film, but it's a lot of fun. 7/10 stars from me.

The humour in the new one is more cynical and "knowing", while that of original is much more innocent, not to say innocuous. A reflection of the changing face of childhood as well as society, I suppose. I cherish this movie because, like Jodie's other big Disney movie Candleshoe, along with movies like Swallows and Amazons and The Railway Children, this is part of my childhood. Another thing is, Lindsay Lohan just does not have the star quality of a young Jodie Foster (then again, who does?).
