Goofs that they didn't mention

When she is driving her mother's Volkswagen Bug, she puts it first into reverse to drive back into the neighbor's yard before she corrects and goes forward. She doesn't know how to drive, logical since she is 13. Okay, so since Bugs are stick shifts how did she do that? In order to put it into reverse you have to put it over and back. It's not like an automatic where you would miss and put it into the wrong gear. Also she would be bunny hopping and stalling out the car when she goes forward not just smoothly pulling put driving.

Also, how is it that she can cook a turkey with relative knowledge of cooking and yet she can't figure out not to stuff the washing machine tight with all that weird junk and half a box of detergent?
