This has always irritated me a bit, because annabelle is supposed to be a tomboy, then why when they switch is the mother putting on makeup and dressing up etc? Annabelle doesn't wear makeup and isn't into girly things. There were other examples too when the mother might have acted like a teenager, but it wasn't really stuff that Annabelle would do. Apart from the scene where she plays baseball.

Well Annabelle was supposed to be "tomboyish" but not a full tomboy. Remember she did have a Canpea bed and a dollhouse, actually her room looked pretty girly. Also in the beggining she talks about how she's watching her weight casue she was hopefing her figure would mature soon, so she did seam a little bit into her looks. Remember she was 13 going through puberty, and probobly growing out of that tomboyish stage, like most girls do at that age.
Also I guess she figured since her was in her mom's body she wanted to experiment with makeup and the stuff that she wore.
Annabel was just playing the act-and badly, for laughs.

Actually, the scenes of her doing makeup are really smart. According to theories in child development, people at Annabel's age are in a developmental phase of figuring out their identity, so it's quite realistic that Annabel would be trying out makeup, even if she's trying it on her mother while in her mother's body.
