Finally saw this movie in full...
I've defended this movie even though I haven't seen it in full besides some clips and "watching" the movie through long recap review videos on YouTube. But even though all of this, I never got the impression this was SOOO bad from what I've seen, and I've seen a lot of material to make this judgement. But finally SEEING the movie as the title here states, I STILL feel the way I do.
One of the worst movies ever? HA! I've seen so many movies that are bad and this doesn't come off being anywhere NEEEEEEEEEEAR the trash I've seen to be given the "worst" treatment. Can't even call this one of the worst Exorcist movies or one of the worst horror movies. Nada. Does it stand the test of time to the original? Perhaps not, but it's certainly a worthy follow-up that deserved its respect. During an interview of the third movie, Brad Dourif had the nerve to call this "boring" as if his own movie wasn't that for most of its runtime. Laughable.
Now, this did have some issues but they're minor. My complaints stem from the look of the movie being so glossy though a look most movies of this time had so I can't fault it too much there, some of the acting falling flat and dialogue sounding off, and some editing issues. I feel between scenes the editing can be abrupt like at the beginning. I think the intro to Regan could have been handled better. I feel the scene with Regan sleeping and having that dream that steers her to the ledge should have been her introduction. Then Sharon goes to meet with Father Lamont in Washington D.C. and then he shows up to meet with Regan.
The movie did have its weird moments (the Spanish girl at the start when she was on fire, the "flashback" of Merrin and demon Regan when Dr. Tuskin is stuck in that memory, Lamont trying to put out that box fire with a wooden crutch, etc.), but overall was fine. Again, I've seen way worse. The cast was strong and the overall story wasn't really confusing as many made it out to be and most importantly, it did something different than rehash the original again which is an automatic plus for a sequel. With some better cinematography, acting, line-delivery, and editing, this would have done wonders.
