Kermit not mentioned in the NEW DVD Documentary

I wonder what the story is behind this. They talked about everything from the Book the Special was based on to a SOng not included in the special. So I wonder why they didn't even bring up the fact Kermit narrated the Special. I guess Kermit was a way to connect the special being a Jim Henson production so kids who didn't know about the book would want to see Emmett Otter.
But to not mention Kermit at all? Oh well.

I may be taking a shot in the dark here, but it might have to do with the fact that Jim Henson and his creations are owned by Disney. This might explain why he is omitted in the DVDs.

It is a shame, though, for I remember Kermit being on when the show was released on HBO and he IS in the Emmitt Otter videotape.

I just think it's downright sacrilegious to edit anything Jim Henson created.

The reason is likely that kermit was not in the original. He was added later when ABC started airing an edited version of the original.

I rmember Kermitt being on the HBO special, so that would make your claim false...

The original (non-Kermit) version aired on HBO in the late 70s. When the special was broadcast on ABC in the early 80s, they edited the show down and added Kermit to it. AFTERWARDS, they started re-airing the special on HBO with the newer (Kermit-fied) version. Hence, there are two versions of this special - Kermit and non-Kermit.

I think it is bull crap that they emmitted Kermit out of this film! Disney re-released a few of Jim Henson's muppet movies on dvd and all have Kermit in them! So what makes this film different from all the rest!? Huhh!?

I think Disney is on CRACK!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake the F up Disney!!!!!!!!!!
I will stick to my original copy with him in it! I won't waste my money on Disney's retarded version!
Untill this film is re-released right with all the extra footage and nothing taken from it and with all new and old features I will keep my original dvd!

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Hummmmmmmmmmmmm Buggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the times I watched it was on Nickelodeon in the late 80s early 90s when they would air it and then show Muppet Family Christmas and then The Christmas Toy. This of course was the Kermit one. It would be great to see a longer non kermit version.

I would love to see a new version of this with all the scenes (added and cut scenes) and for the love of Wendel PUT KERMIT BACK IN! Then release it on BluRay AND HD-DVD and star airing it on TV in hi-def. Just a thought.

No, Kermit reappears at the end. You see Emmet & co. singing at the Frog's restaurant, and the camera pans over to Kermit sitting at a table, where he turns to the camera and speaks.

The person who claims that Kermit was not in the original version is wrong. One of the original selling points of the tv special was that it featured Kermit riding a bike - a year or two before they put the muppets on bikes in the first muppet movie.

reply

Kermit doesn't appear in the DVD version is because Kermit along with the original muppets are now owned by Disney. Emmet Otter is one of the few properties which are still owned by the Henson Company so they were able to release it on DVD but they couldn't show Kermit as they no longer own the character.
