I loved this movie as a kid and always looked for it to be on around Christmastime. I never could find it on tv. I finally bought it from the dvd club last year before Christmas and watched it at Christmastime. I will watch it every year and share it with my children because it was a good one, with meaning too!!!
Emmet kind of reminded of a twisted muppet version of the Gift of the Magi. Instead of pawning/selling things of their own, the muppet counterparts pawned/put a hole in their loved one's posessions. :P Yeah, I love this movie. It doesn't even have to be Christmas time for me to want to pop it into the old VCR. Emmet was a big part of my childhood. :)
This is the ONLY Xmas Movie for me. It totally defines the values of Xmas, I was born in 1976 and have watched it every year around Christmas time at least once for as long as it's been out, (according to my parents) This movie was my introduction to cool rock music (isn't that rock song sung by Jimi Hendrix?) The soundtrack is super easy to learn and sing along too, and though the muppet wires are clearly visible it still retains it's movie charm for me.
I agree - I put this right up there with "The Grinch" (classic cartoon version), and "The Christmas Story" as my holiday favorites. I first saw this on HBO in the early '80s as a kid, and have watched it every year since.
This was a STAPLE for all my Christmases when I was a young kid (single digits), it was on every year and I watched it every year. One of the years we taped it, and still have it on vhs.
