Does anyone agree that they should put the score on cd? Not like the soundtrack was released years ago, but I mean like the actual score, with a main title, and end title and all in between? I enjoyed the score to this film(as I enjoy all Barry scores) and this one is no exception.
I agree also!! I liked it as a kid and I still enjoy it. I have a 4-CD compilation of John Barry scores and the opening slow version is included on it.
I also have an album, on Casablanca records, with an extended faster version of the theme sung by Donna Summer. It was on one of those single or two song full size vinyl records, and the whole song lasts about 7-8 minutes. Definitely a collectors item and I still like it after all these years.
I would purchase a remastered soundtrack without question.
I recently put my "THE DEEP" soundtrack on CD. There is a company out of Hollywood California called Memory Lane Digital Productions. They can filter the crackles & pops from your record and put it on CD. They can even reproduce the record cover for your CD case. It is expensive though.
Yes, that's right lazer. It was a large LP record that had only two songs, one on each side. The deep disco version (I still love this song after all of these years) is about 8 minutes long with Ms.Summer singing through the most of the song. She sings a slow version in the film, but the fast version is my favorite.
I just bought the full Barry score on CD from eBay. It's an import, billed as the "25th Anniversary Edition" and featuring coverart from the re-released DVD. The disc also contains Barry's score for "Jagged Edge" and additional cues from "Peggy Sue Got Married". This so-called import could be bootleg, but nontheless, the disc is professionally produced. A tell-tale sign that it could be bootleg is the lack of actual company info., rather a phony record label is credited: Bermuda Triangle Associates. I own another release from this same mysterious company... two Morricone scores on one disc: "The Island" and "Orca" (credited to Island Music Inc.). Hmmmm. At any rate, it's definitely worth tracking down.
Here's the track listing for "The Deep": 1) Theme from "The Deep" (3.59); 2) Bermuda / Main Titles (4:02); 3) Sweeping The Wreck (0:53); 4) Gail Is Trapped (1:03); 5) Wiring The Ammunition (1:57); 6) A Moray Eel (1.23); 7) The Air Gun (2.56); 8) The Morphine Gets Lifted (0.54); 9) Lost And Found (1.04); 10) The Proof / Finding Kevin (1.58); 11) The Haitian Mob Arrives / Final Dive (2.25); 12) Underwater Pursuit (1.55); 13) Harpoon Attack (1.09); 14) Death Of Cloche / The Goliath Explodes (1:46); 15) Flying Dragon Chain / End Credits (4.26); 16) Down, Deep Inside - Vocal by Donna Summer (6.05)
Note: All tracks differ from the original Casablanca soundtrack album. "Theme from The Deep" is the original film version, the album version is not represented, although "Flying Dragon Chain / End Credits" is quite similar. An extended version of "Down, Deep Inside" is featured here, rather than the album/single version which runs approx. 4 min. 30 sec.
"Disco Calypso" is a Beckett tune and not actually part of Barry's film score. Personally, the last time I listened to the LP, I found myself truly annoyed (and haunted) by that particular track and I'm relieved that its not included on this release.
Actually that CD is the record suite just broken down into different songs. I should know because I have both and the running time, and sound and everything about it is the same. The sound may differ due to the difference in LP and CD!
~In my ear it blew it's name, it sounded strange, but I heard it plain, Mistral, Mistral Wind. ~
The quality is pretty good. Better than the LP - which is strange considering the production of LPs sound is usually better as far as all around sound is concerned. But yeah, with the CD it is pretty good. IF you can find a copy that is...I fought tooth and nail for mine.
Calypso is not on the CD as I can tell...a good thing for us!

I have the original LP of the film soundtrack. I wish an official soundtrack CD would be released. Since AJohn Barry is very popular, why not release it?
