Alternate endings? (spoilers)

When I saw The Deep years ago, I could have sworn that Treece dies at the end. I recall him getting trapped in the explosion, which for me seemed fitting (and a little sad/disappointing) since Robert Shaw's character dies at the end of Jaws as well. So, when I saw the ending after watching it again today, I was completely surprised - Treece rises to the surface, shouts to David, and throws him the pendant, and he looks alive and almost well (he has a spear stuck in his leg from before...).

Are there alternate endings, or is my memory failing me again? Perhaps the made-for-TV version is different?

I have never seen the TV version, with I had though. I think you're referring to the book. Treece gives his life for David and Gail in the book, and blows himself up with the ship. That also kills Cloche, not Percy, the eel, as it is named in the book.

I have heard of alot of scenes that are similar to the book, but were cut for time and pacing. The TV version allegedly restores these scenes, but those who have seen the tv version, never bother sharing the wealth or giving insight on it.

I have seen the film many times in theaters and on television since its release and Treece has always lived at the end.

I saw this at its premiere, Trece throws the amulet to the couple and then Donna Summer sings. Every version (TV< VIDEO, cable, etc.) hence is missing Donna.

What? Donna never appeard in the movie. And I would have known. It played at the Parklane Theater as I saw it. I would love to see that deleted footage, too.

It was good that Shaw's character survived in this one. His death scene in Jaws is harrowing enough.

There is no alternate ending in the TV version. Just checked.
