I remember seeing a film back in the mid 80's that sounds similar to Day of the Animals...
I have a feeling that it was set in Australia. It starts out with a couple going on a camping trip. I believe they run over a kangeroo and that angers the animals. The ending has something to do with a creature being burnt on the beach...a whale maybe.

The film you are thinking of is called 'Long Weekend'- actually made in the late 1970s, it is an Australian movie and is available on U.K. DVD from Optimum releasing and I believe there is a region 1 U.S disc as well. Top film!

I Remember this film it is so creepy. When they keep hearing those noises in the night then they find that dead whale on the beach. The weirdest thing is when they get in their little camper van to leave and they just keep driving around in circles.....and who could forget that ending...shocking.
I may go seek it out now as i'm excited about watching it again.
