Leslie Nielsen's charactor...what happened?

I'm a bit confused. When I saw this movie he went from being a cocky man not being couperative and going his own way...and this next time we see him he is in the rain with his shirt off and now acting psychotic. The film never really shows or explains why or what happened. Was HE effected by the just like the rest of the animals?

reply

Yes- Earlier in the film, his intellect kept his brutal nature in check, but he (like the affected animals) became wildly unpredictable. So it was a perfect storm: his own wretchedness, the added stress of their dire predicament, and the effect of the radiation that they were exposed to. I loved the way Leslie played the heavy in his pre- "Airplane!" films.

reply

LOL...I'm actually at that scene right now, and came on here to see if I missed something. He's beating the s#it out of everyone with that stick, and called that Jewish lady a Beverly Hills Bi+ch and smacked the kid around a little. TERRIBLE movie, but funny in a way.

reply

Yes, I think Leslie's character succumb to the perils of climate change

reply

He obviously evolved. Had the bear not bested him in combat, he would have gone on to rule the world.

Red Pepper Restaurant!

reply

He just gets gradually angrier I think the sun affected him like it affected the animals.

reply

He got pissed off because someone called him "Shirley". He doesn't like that.

I was watching this again the other day and would like to point out the outstanding delivery of the line, "come here, baby," delivered by Leslie when he tries to rape that girl.

COME HERE, BABY

Emily? Who's Emily?

It would have been a better line had he delivered it to the bear, before he wrestles it.

Lions and tigers and Leslies oh my!

Now that's funny!

I believe that Leslie's character was not immune as other humans were to to the ozone/sun issues. Remember toward the end, the government agents mentioned that some humans were immune, or something like that? Also, being primal by nature, and also narcissistic, his mind and character wasn't as evolved as, or could relate to, his fellow humans, like the other characters could. The ozone problems, then, could have affected him like they did the animals.

I haven't seen this film in a long time. But I remember someone in the film saying that whatever was making the animals crazy was starting to make people crazy too!

reply

Yeah, the sun started to effect him just like it also started to effect the guy with the little girl.
But I do think there is a scene missing there. It is probably suppose to have been a day or 2 since they left the others but it really felt like it was just an hour or so later. My guess is that there was a scene that was later cut because of paising or something. Like the older kid was suddenly hurt but not when they left the others.
