Weren't there bugs on this movie?

...or am I just dreaming? I vaguely remember this movie from '77. I was 13 at the time, and I remember there were somekind of FIREBUGS, right? or was that another movie. The bugs would set stuff on fire and kill people.

Sorry, but the Cockroach thing is an Urban Myth.

A. The Nuclear Blast heat wave is hot enough to boil steel & stone in an instant.
Cockroaches & Scorpions are Not tough enough to survive that.

B. Gamma and X-Ray Radiation would kill a cockroach faster than they would a Human due to the lower body mass.

Oh, and Radiation (Gamma, X-Ray, Beta or Alpha particles) Do Not, repeat DO NOT make Giant mutant animals, they make DEAD animals.

Sorry.. was just passing thru & thought that needed Said. :)

yeah, they said in the movie "the day after" cockroaches are impervious to radiation. lucky cockroaches.

You are thinking of "Bug," a 1975 film with Bradford Dillman. The basic plot is, there is an earthquake that releases giant bugs that set things on fire.

Easy mistake to make, though -- the "bugs" in both films are Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Three inches long, and they don't set fires!

The film you are thinking of is "Phase IV" from 1974. It is about intelligent ants. A well-made and disturbing film.

reply

There are “Killer Cockroaches” in the film; Paul Winfield was killed by them.

reply

No...Avenger69 is right...it was "Bug". I Never saw the film itself, but just the preview was enough to frighten me!

Nasty little critters!

Thanks to all who replied.

You are most welcome my friend. I am glad I was able to help. If you get the opportunity, check the film out - it is certainly thought provoking. Even though I haven't seen it in years, it did leave an impression.

to Scruffy this is a long shot since this was posted so long ago but do you remember a film about men fighting in huge robots i think they were prototypes or something and the ending was a huge battle between the original robot and a more advanded one, sorry for such a bad description but i have been looking for this and had no luck

reply

Why yes, as a matter of fact, I do. I'm trying to think of the name - something like "Robowars" or the like. I will have to do a search on IMDb. If I find it, I will let you know! I think its from the early 80s.

reply

Hey, I think thats it. I just looked it up. I know it had 'Robo' in the title, but for some reason I thought it was from earlier like late 80's. Please feel free to ask me about fantasy films from that era; I just might be able to help you.

yeah it was Robo Jox, somehow it seemed so good back then

right onto the fantasy film, again its another film i loved as a kid but will most likely be awful now, all i seem to remember is a cyclops at some point dies opening a closing passage for the heroes, i also seem to remember some strange men with spiked clubs on thier arms for weapons, again this is a long shot i only remembercertain bits but has stayed in my head for the last 18 years or so since i watched it

if i remember the characters looked like a rip off of the He-man action figures if you remember them

cheers for any help at all, this is one of those things that will bug me until i find it

Hi Abe - thats "Krull" (1983), an odd mix of sci-fi and fantasy. It has some very good scenes in it, especially the Widow of the Web sequence and a terrific early score from James Horner.
