They wanted to go to Albany?

So I have never seen this movie. I just read a review that talks about the characters all going across the country to get to Albany NY. This seems kind of cool because I am from Albany. Did they film any scenes here? Is it worth watching? Thanks

Anyone?

reply

Yes, they go to Albany, but "Albany" in the film in reality is near Malibu, California -- at least that's where they shot it.

reply

Thanks for the info. I actually forgot I asked this question, Bummer that they didn't shoot any scenes here though.

reply

They went to Albany because of a taped message broadcast once a week. Very like "On the Beach".

why would they go to Lark Street? everyone in Albany knows that Lark has the highest percentage of Homosexual activity there. maybe they would go for bombers burritos, but thats all they would go for.

'Homosexual 'activity'"? WTF?!? Albany's 'Greenwich Village' offers more than just 'Homosexual activity' and Bomber's Burritos.

reply

I kept hoping they would find "The Egg" destroyed.

Well as I remember, and it's been awhile since I've seen the movie, Ya got 3 guys ( 2 white - 1 black, 1 officer, 2 enlisted ) on a destroyed airbase for years.

Maybe Lark St was thier eventual destination

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney, than driving with Ted Kennedy

My parents are from North Adams and every time we visited, I always wanted to continue on to Albany. No particular reason...

This has nothing to do with the question but I thought I mention it here anyway.

My parents built my home (original owners, I inherited it) in April 1961 literally from the ground up. At the time the Department of Defense issued an official booklet to every household on how to convert the basement into a nuclear shelter. I still have it locked away.

I still would like to do that anyway, but it would cost some serious money because I would need an architect and an engineer and a contractor to do it properly. I guess the closest simulation in modern terms would be a "panic room".

It said that the northeastest corner of the house (which is where the boiler and hot water is) is the safest place to be.

There's also a scene in Detroit (where I'm from), and you can see mountains in the background. The only problem is... there are no mountains anywhere near Detroit.

Someone else suggested that Malibu stood in for Albany. I just saw this again tonight, and my thought when J.M Vincent was riding the motorcycle to Albany that it looked a lot like Southern California.

I suppose that being post-apocalypse that the thermonuclear blasts have caused huge geological upheavals, creating mountains where none existed before, or something like that...

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but, in a nuclear attack, Albany would be a main target. Watervliet arsenal is nearby, and miles of underground tunnels under the crapital. Where do you think our geat leaders will hide? And, if you've ever been to SUNYA (uptown campus) and go through the tunnels beneath it, you know that you can only go down so far before security shoos you away.
