Damnation alley is not even the worst Sci-Fi movie ever made

This is far from a great film but I'll take it over any CGI affair being produced today. It has a fun cast (Peppard, Vincent and Haley); a super score, one of Goldmith's best; and economically savy and cool special effects. With that said, here are some choices (off the top of my head) for the worst Sci-Fi films of all time:

1)Planet of the Apes (the remake)
2)Quintet
3)Rollerball (the remake)

I agree. There is a weird attraction to this movie I never figured out. Maybe it's the "what if" premise of the earth getting knocked off its axis. Who knows.

I really wish this movie would get released on DVD or Blu-Ray in widescreen and surround sound. I remember the "Sound 360" process when I saw Damnation Alley in the theater. It was quite dynamic with several speakers on the sides and back. I'm sure it can easily be converted to current digital home theater surround.

Oh, and yes. Definitely one of Jerry Goldsmith's best scores.

I watched Damnation Alley(1977) on You Tube. It was like smoked gouda...a delicious piece of cheese! Some of the action scenes were good and the scene with the radioactive hillbillies was funny as hell! Jerry Goldsmith's music score was superb! I love the scene where a cigarette and a Playboy magazine destroys a military base! LOL!

When is Damnation Alley coming out on DVD and Blu Ray? Is it coming out on DVD and Blu ray?

definitely not the worst sci fi movie Ive seen, but given its age it has that "so bad its good" quality to it.

"Armageddon" is much, much worse than this film.

There are tons of movies worse than this. I think the criticism most people have is that it could have been so much more. Also some unintentionally funny lines and acting which to me isn't a bad thing in this type of movie.
My main problem is that it has no ending. It just fizzles out and then the credits roll. I thought I had fallen asleep for the last 20 minutes, so I backed up a chapter and realized I had watched the whole thing.

I do like the movie though for what it is.

My only complaint from the official Shout Factory DVD release is that we didnt get the cut scenes from the television broadcast integrated into the movie. There are no subtitles either. Even if it was too much work just to edit them in it would have made a nice extra feature on the disc.

Compare it to the behemoth of Star Wars and it feels like it. The effects felt dated almost instantly because Star Wars showed how it can be done. The effects in Damnation Alley were really awful for most part with only the odd matt painting looking convincing. The sky effect was absolutely awful.
