DVD
Whoever has the the rights to this film is surely sitting on a little pot of gold. For one thing, Cheryl Smith has a large cult following. And two, this picture is highly sort after. It's colourful, fun and features some great musical numbers. Snapping Pussy should have been a No 1 hit!
It would be good to think that the film could be released in its proper aspect ratio and with the soundtrack digitally enhanced. An audio track with Charles Band would be great too. But I guess this would be a fairy tale in itself, as these types of films command little respect. Although, having said that, the two Fantasm films have been given a great DVD release as has Flesh Gordon, so anything's possible I guess. Speaking of Fairy Tales, they should do a double disc with Group 1's other classic which was appropriately called Fairy Tales, and which was the follow-up to Cinderella.
I'm a great fan of this type of trashy filmmaking, and it was all the rage in the 1970's. I remember seeing an add for Cinderella on TV when I was but a wee lad and my Mum being suitably horrified. "Is nothing sacred!?" She said, shaking her head in utter dismay.
So come on Anchor Bay, Something Weird or Blue Underground, or whoever, get these classics out to us digital fans - and that's with all the bells and whistles, or a least a couple of them. (A commentary track from Daniel Pearl who shot Fairy Tales would be good.)
