This sceen was created to apeal to the rebelious streak in every kid. And it worked ! I saw this film in the theater when I was seven years old. I loved this film, it had everything that was going in my life. Things that were on my seven year old mind and big in my world. Playboys, taking off in a van to unsupervised fun, Little League, exploring the world, getting past adults power trips and B.S. However this sceen was the ultimate gift of this film ! When Tanner refused to leave the field and the adults came out to man handle him. But they could not catch him ! That was a gift to every kid in the audience ! I remember the laughter and excitement in the theater
as Tanner threw the base in the man's stomach knocking him senseless. It was such a joy to see two growing men tripping and falling unable to catch this kid. Then the there is this huge auditorum of people chanting for the kid to triumph ! So he does and the game goes on ! I was a kid who suffered a lot of physical abuse, I always new adults to be people who hit me. I never thought a kid could stand his ground and triumph. I'm a Cinemajunkie !
