Gary Lee Cavagnaro played Engleburg in the original The Bad News Bears (1976). By the time it came to film ‘The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training’, he had grown about 4 inches and lost a tremendous amount of weight. Since he no longer looked like his character, the part had to be recast.

I was wondering the same. Really, I was like what, did they have a shortage of fat kid actors and the original who played Engelberg wasn't available...thanks for explaing.

What's strage is that they all look a lot older, when it was what, a year between to two films.

When I was a kid I didn't even notice there was a different Engelberg.

I read that he was no longer interested in acting and wanted to return to school. I've seen this movie probably 25x and I didn't notice for the longest time that it was a different actor.
