Anyone know why he was not "really" in this movie. I remember being disappointed as a kid that he didn't play a part in this. In fact his only two IMDb credits are this and Bad News Bears. Maybe he'd had it and left the business.

No, he caught syphilis. He went crazy and tried to stab Walter Matthau. That's why Walter backed out this film.

I always thought it was because he had gender reassignment surgery and changed his name to "Rachel Dratch", and hit it big on "Saturday Night Live"

Seriously, look at a picture of him from the first movie side by side with Rachel Dratch. I swear they are the same person

To this day whenever I hear something about the disease Lupus I think of The Bad News Bears.

I always thought that Tanner saw him as his polar opposite (therefore making him less mean), so he felt the need to see him before they played in Texas. It was strange to the Looper in the movie (on screen) for all of five minutes, even though he was mentioned via postcard and the big speech.
