Possible Plot Hole

The Van. Did the van check out? It belonged to a friend of a friend. It ended up in Houston TX, and registered in CA. The owners were ok with that?

hmmmm..........

But of course the biggest plot whole is why they're considered the "California Champs"when they lost the championship? It couldn't have been 2 years cause this on was made in '77.

1. The bears were the "California Champs"

- Can't remember for sure but I thought the TV show explained how they won the championship and were able to go to Houston for nationals. I'm not 100% sure since the TV show came out two years after the movie. But I do remember watching a TV show with the bears where they won a final game and were the champions. I know the TV show was based off the first movie, but it might be a stretch.

2. The van was towed away.

- It was just towed out of the no parking zone. It could have been dropped off at the hotel's parking lot.

3. The van "checked out"

- It wasn't his jurisdiction, so maybe the cop didn't care once Michael Leak came on the scene. Just a guess.

Well didn't they have a week to get the van back? You know like it wouldn't be until then that someone would miss it and report it stolen.

That's the way it was explained in the book. The book explains many of the plot holes the movie leaves, including what happened to Buttermaker and Amanda. The book as a whole, was actually fun to read.

I wondered why the police showed up at the hotel in the first place. Then, Lane Smith is questioning them and telling them he's going to see if the van checks out. This is kind of weird. If you don't have the registration, how does the van check out?
