The Root of All Evil (S04E22).. about the $200 giraffe.

First aired March 4, 1980.

If you asked me to guess how much is a 4 ft giraffe stuff animal from FAO Schwarz, I'd guess about $150-200 in 2021. But $200 in 1980? Were they off with this pricing? LOL! Or, does it have to do with supply and demand? Less toy manufacturing in 70/80's? Kinda like how anything is crazy expensive when there is no market for it? But c'mon, stuffed animals? Even the intro has them playing games and winning stuff animals in Santa Monica pier.

No outsourcing in 1980.

No NAFTA with Mexico yet.

Unions still had power in America.

FAO Swartz also needs to make a profit on a item that rich father's give as a gift to their daughters, so they are willing to overpay.

$200 is about right.

This is how much those $200 would be today

That's nuts.

I recall my dad's wages were like a little shy of $3 bucks an hour. So I guess after Chrissy bought the Giraffe, the shock of Janet and Jack Tripper were on point. LOL!
