Kids ?

Hi,

In the show the Ropers and mr.furley keep refering to the trio as kids.

The ropers are in their fifty. Jack is in his early 30's. Crissy Snow is in her early 30's too. Janet is late 20. Larry has grey hair visible in some episodes of the show.

I understand that 30 years old is still young. For the ropers someone 20 years younger may seems like a kid. However i don't see 30 years old as kids but as full grown adults. It just feels weird to me when they refer to them as kids.

I guess they casted older actors to play 21 years old.

It's just a kind of pet name the Ropers and Mr. Furley use to collectively call them. Anyway, the Ropers and RF are old enough to be their parents, so calling them "kids" makes sense chronologically too.

I think Jack, Janet & Chrissy were supposed to be in their mid twenties during the early years of Three's Company.

That is something older people did back in the day. When I was in my late 20's I was working with people in their mid-60's, and they would refer to me and others my age as "kids". I knew that they was no harm intended but I still found it extremely annoying.

A 20-year difference is a full generation apart. Most people refer to the younger generation as kids, regardless of how old they are.

The Ropers were probably upward toward their 60s, PLUS "kids" is just an expression for anyone younger.

To a 60 year old someone in their 30s could seem like a "kid".
