Bye bye boards

Going to miss the IMDb boards

reply

Same here.

reply

Me too.

reply

I'm gonna miss IMDB, because after Feb. 20, I will have no reason to get on it anymore once the boards are gone.

reply

Hello MovieChat!

reply

I never did post much on IMDB but I sure miss it. I too am a big fan of threes company. Hope to keep up the discussions

reply

Hello Soggybottom! The Imdb boards were taken down early but I already found a fellow Three's Company poster on my first try - cool!

reply

Hey Sis! I'm glad to see that you made it. Yeah, they were supposed to be up until 2/20 but they closed before 2/19 was even close to being over.

And hello to Ms. Chips (I don't remember that name on IMDb but if you didn't post much, that would explain it).

Yes, let's keep up the discussions. Right now I'm binge-watching the Season-4 episodes on YouTube. They're funny, but as I remember, there were complaints that Chrissy got dumber as the seasons went on, and boy were they right.

I liked her lots better in the first-2 seasons.

Hey guys, you can also try out this web-site...
Three's Company on The Movie DB

But that one's not really hoppin' either.

reply

Hi there. I think I only posted twice.. on roseannes board. The other boards I followed were the xfiles, married with children and threes company.

I liked just reading but always to shy to post much. However, it was always a big part of my week to see what people were thinking.

I watch threes company on deja vu every night. Such a throw back

reply

Hah Chips, I like all of those old shows. You have great taste!

Hey don't be shy. Sure there are dingle-dweebs all over the message boards, but I never saw any on IMDb's Three's Company board, so I think we'll be safe to post here.

Three's Company has always been my favorite sit-com. I'm sure that I've seen them all many times over the years, but now (Thanks to the magic of YouTube) I'm able to watch ALL of them in order from beginning to end, and they're just as great as I remember!

John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt are my favorite comedic duo of all-time. And when you throw in early-Chrissy, The Ropers, Larry, and Fingers Furley, you can't go wrong. Even the dumb episodes are still great!

So what's your take on Chrissy? Do you think that she was just as good in Seasons 3 & 4 as the first-2? Or do you agree with me (and others) that they kept dumbing her down to the point where it just wasn't realistic at all? The fake crying and the honking-laugh just got old fast--Do you agree?

So I'm not that sad that she left the series early. It was time for some fresh faces, and while Cindy and Teri weren't comedic gold, they still held up their roles pretty well.

Here's another web-site to check out...
Three's Company on Previously-TV
...although not much action there either.

reply

Hey, Soggybottom! Nothin' much doing at this website - I wonder where most of the IMDB posters went? Anyway, this site is giving me a pain! It wouldn't allow me to sign up under my own user name! I had to create a new account and capitalize the "s" in sister, but I wonder if I will have trouble signing in again next time.

Anyway, although the question wasn't directed at me, I'll answer my opinion to it: Chrissy flat-out RUINED S4 of 'Three's Company'! I actually thought her bizarre looks and behavior were so bad that they even detracted from the *others'* performances - the show from that season is nearly unwatchable for me. I remember seeing comments on IMDB (and I apologize in advance if you're one of them and I offend you) saying that Chrissy started off "reasonably intelligent" or even just "intelligent" and later became dumb. Ummm, no. Chrissy was never intelligent nor was she supposed to be - that was the joke (that was later taken wayyy too far). She was incredibly naive and not too bright from the very beginning. The fact that some people didn't seem to realize this may be part of the reason why they made no mistake of Chrissy's being a moron later on. Also, I read that Suzanne Somers wanted credit for the character's horrific change - who would want credit for THAT?! - and that she fashioned the Chrissy character around young children and dogs. I really don't know, but agree that her horrible behavior that nearly got the show cancelled was a blessing in disguise because it enabled the producers, directors or whoever to breathe new life into the show. The Jack-Janet-Terri-Larry-Furley episodes were always my favorites :)

I will get to the exaltata (correct sp, with exaltatus being the other correct spelling, as there seems to be no Latin plural form..) under the "Early Chrissy - Olivia" post later.

P.S. I actually watched that episode a second time on Youtube because of the fantastic play on words ("Put them in the window and they'll grow." !!!) :D

reply

Yeah, I was hoping that most of the Three's Company IMDb-posters would migrate here by now, but so far, it's just me, you, and a chick named Chips!

This site is brand new, and the guy doing it (Jim) has been working day and night to try to bring all of the features to it that we liked from IMDb, so I'm guessing that has something to do with your recent struggles here (although you'd think whether it was a small or large "s" shouldn't make a difference). I'm guessing that you shouldn't have any more problems signing it as I've never had any (I just wish that it would keep me logged in).

I'm glad that you replied to my question, as it's meant for ANYONE who wants to join in the discussion (We're desperate for more posters at this point--It's so bad that even trolls are welcome!)

I'm not one of those who thought that Chrissy started off as intelligent. She was definitely cast as the dumb blonde who got dumber and dumber as the episodes went on. I thought that she fit in really well with Jack and Janet for the most part, but they definitely over-did the dumbness. Chrissy should've studied children and dogs better because even THEY aren't that dumb!

Thanks for the correction on "exaltatas" (I'm gonna make it plural anyway). Yep, that's a great episode (And if she were to put "them" in the window, there'd be something on that creepy dude that would undoubtedly grow too!)

And it actually is believable for Jack and Chrissy to think that they were really talking about "that" since it was just a few episodes prior when Janet and Helen were baring all at a nude beach (I just wonder what Stanley would have done had he caught Helen in the act!)

Anyway, I'm so glad to see you back. If no one else comes, I'm fine with just chatting with you and Chippster. We can be like our own version of Three's Company--I always idolized Jack for his living situation, so this set-up is just fine by me!

reply

Hey soggybottom,
Yep, I'm with you. If I remember correctly when watching the show for the first time I thought the first few eps with ultra-dumb Chrissy were funny. But that didn't last long. The snorting and crying were too much.

I didn't care for Cindy too much and Terry was a breath of fresh air.
I loved the Ropers, especially when mr. Roper would stare at the camera after making a joke.

Mr. Furley was great too, as were the rest of the cast.

The comedic style of John Ritter was sooo funny. I wonder if he ever hurt himself during some of his trips/falls. Some of those looked like they might have been painful haha.

Anyway, glad to see a few faces on here. Hello to sister. I'm sure we will see more soon.

reply

Hey Soggy & Chips. Guess it's just the three of us for now!

To Ms. Chips: I read that John Ritter said that he was coming home to his wife with bruises all the time due to the effort he put into his physical comedy. It looked real because it was!

Soggybottom: I would say "exaltatas" too and am certain that was what creepy Greg meant also!

reply

Hi Sis,

I hope I am replying in the right format. I never did post much so if I am doing it wrong please let me know.

How interesting that you read something about Jacks antics. I would love to read that if you happen to recall where u read it.

So, right now I am watching reruns on Deja Vu. It is on season 4 right now with episode 14 and 15 airing tonight at 7pm EST.

Have you or Soggy been on any other sites yet? I have not. I have been keeping an eye on married with children and the xfiles but no one has posted yet. So sad. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, it was a big highlight to my week to see what people were talking about.

Great chatting with you both😀

reply

It's funny you asked Chippster because I just came across this site... Three's Company on SitcomsOnline

It's got threads and posts that go back about 15 years, but I don't think I'm going to join because I don't like the format. I like the simple easy-to-scroll-through threads that IMDb and this one has. I think that I will go there occasionally and read through some old threads, and if I ever come across anything really good, I'll re-post it here.

If you-guys are ever bored, you could do that too.

There was one interesting discussion (for the ladies) wondering if you'd consider dating Jack (after dating all of the losers that that the girls dated on the show). You'd risk getting kicked out of the apartment, but he was a lot better than what was offered up as dates on the show. I'll have to find that and re-post it because I'm curious to see what you-two think. Or you can comment on it now.

I always wonder why all the guys that the ladies dated were scumbags, while all Jack dated was one hot chick after another! It seemed to me to be more of a guy-show than a gal-show, but you-two are here (and there were a lot of ladies on IMDb), so it looks like I'm dead wrong!

As for Married With Children and X-Files, I haven't gone to those boards, but it is really sad that IMDbers haven't found this site yet. I think it's about as good, and it even has some of our old threads. We can't let IMDb's awful decision ruin it for all of us!

Maybe we will have to venture into SitcomsOnline some day, but for now, I'm happy just to talk to you-two.

Sis & Chippster are my ideal roommates for my very-own Three's Company!

reply

Hi Ms. Chips!

I haven't been on any other sites yet but am curious if there may be some site we don't know about that other IMDB posters know about - they couldn't have all stopped posting cold turkey!

The book where I read about behind the scenes trivia about Jack/John (and all the other actors/actresses in the series, too) was called 'Come and Knock on Our Door'. I forget who the author is (it's been years since I read it), but it's a very good and interesting read. There's a lot of information about the series and its players for the duration of the show. One thing I found particularly interesting was that Richard Cline, Don Knotts, and John Ritter all religiously got B-12 shots before each performance at some point, maybe season 6 or so. I can't remember if it was for nerves or energy or both, but they all felt that the vitamin shot helped them perform at their best. There are tons of little interesting tidbits like that throughout the book , so if you're a major fan of the show like me....I highly recommend it!

reply

Soggybottom, I'd date Jack in a heartbeat..especially later in the series. This would probably be good for a whole new thread, but I've noticed how people talk a lot about the changes in Janet & Chrissy, both appearance- and personality-wise, but not the changes in Jack. In the beginning, Jack was a little less fun and not quite as warm as he was later on. He showed what a sensitive, sweet guy he was in the later seasons. And his appearance changed A LOT. This may sound harsh and I hope it doesn't but...Jack looked like his hairline was receding quite a bit in the seventies and then - as if by magic! - it's thick and gorgeous by 1980. Add the fact that he also grew it out longer, had it layered in that clean-cut boy way (which I personally love!) and lightened that awful medium ash brown color to a brighter and more flattering dark blond and he put himself in a whole different league. His clothing, too, got way preppier and nicer. No one I know looks or acts like Jack and I would be into him for sure!

Interesting what you said about their dates because I thought all three could do better. The girls seemed to get a lot of disgusting old men, awkward-yet-aggresive weirdos, or just complete creeps for the most part (although the guy in "Make Room for Daddy" was a sweet guy and that whole episode had me in stitches).

That said, Jack didn't get such great dates, either. Lots of women who were not even as bright as (early) Chrissy, kind of slutty, and thinking they were way prettier than they were. One exception (in the looks department, at least) was Arabella. I thought she was beautiful. Too bad she was an insensitive bitch, but I loved the way Jack handled that whole situation.

reply

Wow, what a great reply Sis! Ask a question, and boy do I get an answer!

Yeah, Arabella was a hottie. I thought a lot of girls were pretty hot, but that's about all that they had to offer--not a whole lot of brains or personality.

Here's the link to the discussion that I was referring to... Why Not Date Jack?

But you have to scroll waaaaay down to get to the thread, which is why I don't like this one much. But they do have 15 years (and about 80 pages) of archived threads, so I'm having fun reading through some of those.

And I also found this web-site... IMDb Archives

This is interesting because it looks like EVERYTHING that we posted on IMDb has been preserved (except for the last week or so of posting).

It looks like we can start up new accounts and keep posting there too.

reply

Soggybottom, do you go to IMDB Archives now? I haven't had a chance to visit there, but will try to do that today. Yes, I tend to talk (or in situations such as these, write) a lot. Discussions are great and I love communicating with peope, sharing thoughts and memories.

These boards are absolutely dead. Am hoping they pick up or catch on but...not sure they will. Too bad, because discussing shows I love is a great way for me to unwind and I love reading about everyone else's thoughts on them. Here's to keeping this site alive....!

reply

I do go there Sis, but that site is even deader than this one and the others that I've checked out. This one seems to be the best so far.

I'll go along with whatever you and Chippster decide. I'm happy to stay right here and keep our very-own private "Three's Company" group together, if this is all it'll ever be.

There were a lot of regulars on the IMDb Three's Company board. Maybe they'll find us eventually, or maybe they just decided to quit right alonside IMDb.

Time will tell...

reply

Hey roomies,

I will have to check out the sitcoms online site, I haven't had a chance yet.

Thank sis for the name of the book. Looks pretty cool. Very pricy on amazon tho.

As for dating jack...yes,yes, yes. He was such a sweetie.
With the Arabella episode- I loved the look on jacks face when he basically tells her to stuff it. Genuinely a nice guy. Also when he realizes he pushed it too far when he and Larry were hazing Terry. He cares about people's feelings. I'd date him in a second.

As for the girls, I never did understand why they always seemed to date "losers". I know "losers" isn't politically correct, but you know what I mean.

Curious.. what did you girls think of Felipe? When I was younger I thought those episodes were hilarious. Now I don't find them funny at all. He was a bad man.. a very, very bad man. Always trying to cause trouble.

Funny, I never noticed jacks receding hairline. I'm going to watch for that now.

Still not sure if I'm replying in the correct spot. I apologize if I'm screwing up. Please let me know if I should be doing something different.

Cheers

reply

Chipps! It's so good to see you again, and what a great post! I have the best roomies ever (I'm a dude by the way).

You can reply wherever you want to on this board--I'm sure that Sis and I will find it (seeing as how dead the board is).

If I was a chick, I'd totally be into Jack! I remember the first times that I ever watched Three's Company, I thought "Now here's a really-funny down-to-earth caring good-looking guy." I'm surprised that he didn't take off as the next sex-symbol at the time. Maybe he didn't quite have the bod? Or maybe chicks were more into the Clint Eastwood-type back then?

I love Felipe! Yes, you are absolutely right that he wasn't a nice character to Jack AT ALL, but I thought that he was still very funny!

I kinda felt the same way about Larry in that he was a shady character who always had ulterior motives, but every line in every episode is so hilarious that you just have to forgive him every single time!

Remember the time when he said that he was Jack Tripper and then knocked a girl up?

It wasn't nice at all, but that's Larry for ya! What are you gonna do?

Just laugh it up and enjoy the ride--That's what I say!

reply

Whoops, sorry soggy. I should read the posts more carefully haha.

I had forgotten about some of the shady antics from Larry. I'm laughing remembering now.

Did either of you ever get into threes a crowd? I did not, but I recall watching the ropers when it was on. How many different roles did Jeffery tambor play? Without checking, I am guessing 3 or 4.

reply

I've seen some Three's a Crowd and some Ropers, but they just weren't very good. Yes, Jeffrey Tambor played the Roper's uptight neighbor, but I didn't think that he was very funny in that role.

He played 3 different roles in Three's Company. I've got them listed (along with everybody else) right here...Dual Roles

reply

Hey Ms. Chips!

No problem about the book - I bought it at the book store when it came out, so paid the original price. Had no idea it was expensive now...that's kinda weird. The book covered a lot of things, discussed how Suzanne Somers' behavior (not showing up for tapings, show after show, refusing to accept her salary, sabotaging the others) nearly got TC cancelled. Talked about how excited they were to be getting Don Knotts when he first came on. About how they found Cindy and she was an NFL cheerleader. John saying how ridiculous it was that he was running away from Lana and that it was totally out of character for Jack to do that (I thought the same thing even as a *kid* watching the show!) They even interviewed "Greedy Gretchen" who I believe was only in one episode with barely any dialogue. The actress seemed to think she had this major part, but whatever. Point is, that book covered a lot!

Felipe, hmm, I never thought about him too much. The way he treated Jack always bothered me. Always trying to get him fired and ruin his life. Can't say I found him that funny, but he was part of the show, so...I don't know, he's part of its history, so I guess he's okay.

Jack's hairline looked like it was receding to me, at least somewhat. He definitely got a male makeover. Loved the lighter color hair on him and also loved his clothes.

I don't mind if you say their dates were losers - I agree with you. The undercover cop that Janet liked was kind of cute, but he wasn't her date. He pissed me off (pardon my language) when he was flirting with Janet and leading her on. It was obvious that she really liked him and then it was like "in your face" when he mentioned his wife to her. I thought it was funny when she whacked him over the head with the pan again, he deserved it! Seeing as the entire show was farce, these crazy situations were fabulous fun to watch!

Looks like it's just the three of us for now. That's okay. I'm enjoying these conversations with the two of you. :)

reply

Hi soggy and sister! Oh my gosh training a new puppy is no joke. I have literaly not been on this site for so long.
I just finished watching "a night to remember" and "jack goes to the dentist".
Classic tv is all I have to say. I wish more shows like this were on tv today. Great acting by all those involved.

reply

It's not just you Chippster--I've been neglecting this board as well. Sister probably wondered what happened to us.

Sister: Which episode was the one where Janet liked the undercover cop? I can't remember that one at all.

Chipps: It looks like you're at the beginning of season-7. I liked both of those episodes, although I think they were running out of fresh ideas towards the end of the series, so I don't like them as much as the earlier seasons, but they still had enough decent episodes to watch.

Congrats on your new pup Chipps! I wuv widdo doggies--I'm sure yours is adorable and loads of fun!

reply

Hi guys! I kind of gave up on this board for awhile and thought you both had too! I'm glad to.see you are both still around, although considering the last post was a month ago, maybe not. Am hoping so - I think our conversations are fun!

Chips, I love that episode, I think it's called "A Night Not to Remember," if it's the one where a drunken Jack breaks Janet's vase and concludes that something very different happened when the next day he can't remember anything from the night before. It's actually one of my favorites, I think Jack and Janet played so unbelievably well off each other. Isn't that the one where Larry's trying to console Jack in the kitchen and Mr. Furley overhears thinking that Jack and Larry had an affair? 'Three's Company' was so good at doing the whole misunderstanding within a misunderstanding, making it a truly funny show. Nothing was expected but laughter. These shows nowadays, I don't watch them. There's really no show on at all anymore for the sole purpose of unwinding and just enjoying your night.

Soggy, the episode where Janet liked the blond undercover cop was the one where the guy in the ski mask robbed Janet's flower shop. Jack told the police he could identify the man and was willing to help, so they set up a situation that put Jack at risk but allowed them to hopefully trap the robber who had killed innocent victims of prior robberies. And who turned out to be Terri's blind date. The undercover cop was supposed to be there to keep Jack safe, but they ended up thinking he was the robber.. Oh, I should have said *spoilers* but am assuming we've all seen all these episodes before!

Hope you are both well. Chips, hope your puppy is thriving and happy :) Amd hopefully I will hear from you guys again soon - it's been too long!

reply

Ah yes, Eyewitness Blues! That's a great episode (Cindy to the rescue with her klutziness!)

You're right--Janet had it bad for the cop (I totally forgot about that), but when they thought that he was the robber (because of the tattoo), she turned on him in an instant and whacked him over the head with a pan!

The robber didn't turn out to be Terri's blind date though. They just assumed that's who he was when he came to the door, and he didn't tell them otherwise.

Whatever did happen to Terri's real blind date anyway? He must've chickened out and never showed up!

reply

Hey Soggy,

Are you sure he wasn't Terri's blind date? Cindy had said he was rich and besides..how would he know where Jack lived? Maybe you're right, though - I never thought of a different scenario! Anyway, that cop wa cute, but a real jerk leading Janet on like that.

reply

I don't know for sure. He just kinda hesitated before he said that he WAS the blind date--like he just came up with that on the spot when he was asked.

And he knew where Jack lived because that was the point of the whole sting operation...to lead him to Jack's apartment so that they could finally catch him.

So he probably just looked up "Jack Tripper" in the phone book once he saw the story on the news and got his address from there.

They figured that he'd come after Jack to kill off the witness once he knew where he lived...and they were right.

I think it'd have be a HUGE coincidence for the robber to turn out to be Terri's blind date, but anything is possible in this wacky show...So you might be right too.

It's good to hear from you again, Sis!

reply

I really wish there was more activity on this board! OT but Soggy, about a week ago I saw one of the earliest eps of Three's Company and immediately re-noticed how dark and sparse Jack's hair was in the beginning. They truly did fix him up to be his best possible self a few years in and beyond. I already knew that but the contrast is striking. And if you see John Ritter in stuff from about a decads before, he looked even worse. I think everyone should fix him or herself up to look their very best - we'd have a lot more attractive people walking around and where I live, that's desperately needed - yuck!

reply
