I thought this was so weak and disappointing. And I did not understand the ending - can anyone help?

Something to do with a youth elixir. The husband drank whatever was in the vial and replaced it with water, then the wife drank it and she replaced it too.

But then the guy who made it may not have put an elixir in it at all ... i am lost!

Help!

There, most likely, was no elixir. It was a psychological test of their relationship, designed to destroy trust in each other. Worked well didn't it?
