Your Top 5?

I'm partial to...

1. "The Man from the South"

2. "Death in the Morning"

3. "Scrimshaw"

4. "Neck"

5. "The Hitchhiker"

I've never seen the episode based on "Skin" (surely one of Dahl's most unsettling stories), but I'd love to...

reply

My top 5 would be
The Hitch-hiker
The Landlady
A dip in the pool
Galloping Foxley
Light Fingers

Not many have seen 'Light Fingers', but it has a really good ending.

reply

I haven't seen that one, either. Which season is it from? I'm thinking seriously of buying at least two seasons of "Tales" on DVD...my old VHS tapes are pretty much worn out.

reply

Its in series five.
There is a complete dvd set available consisting of all the series. Would work out cheaper.

reply

Thanks for the tip, lunar11! I'll keep an eye out for the complete set.

I have great memories of being allowed to stay up and watch TOTU as a youngster in the late 70s & early 80s and the episodes that are fondly remembered from this time are:

1.Lamb to the slaughter
2.The Landlady
3.The Hitchhiker
4.Royal Jelly
5.Dip in the pool

These were all early episodes and I cannot recall ever watching the later ones, so I was delighted when ITV3 began to show them all.

Whilst times have changed and some episodes are, by today's standards a bit old hat and predictable, some of the episodes I have just recently watched for the first time still have that genuine element of surprise. The ones that I particularly liked were:

A man with a fortune
A Harmless Vanity
Clerical Error

and of course, the universally appreciated The Fly-paper.

I watched The Fly-paper for the first time just recently I was genuinely disturbed by this truly chilling episode!!!

reply

Stranger in Town is one I remember more than the others.

reply

What about The Stinker, anyone?

reply

I like the whole premise but I'm never a fan of cringeworthy episode. Cringeworthy as in feeling for a character rather than the episode itself makes me cringe.
