a show that fed on it's own medium

does anybody remember that wonderful ongoing segment that satirized those crappy Saturday afternoon Western serials...(I think it was called "six-gun playhouse") set in a bar, the movie was watched on the bar tv set, the host was a wimpy character who got steadily drunker during the segment, partnered with a cheesy looking handpuppet and a bartender who kept switching to other shows during the commercials...the movie's hero was called Don Mills (which by the way is a borough in Toronto Ontario Canada)
"Days of the Week" a takeoff on "Days of our Lives" which managed to showcase all the SCTV regulars John Candy, Rick Moranis, Eugene Levy, Catherine Ohara, Andrea Martin, Harold Ramis, Martin Short...
The one thing I missed the most was the networks chopping up the show into 30 minute segments...a lot of the continuity so vital to some of the ongoing plotlines in one show was lost so they didnt really make sense....
