I agree that Martin Short should have never been allowed to join the cast. What were they thinking?

I'm as anatomically impaired as a Ken doll. -Alan Rickman as Metatron
Come on, Martin Short was hilarious on this show. I just love his Jackie Rogers JR, Ed Grimley, and Robin Williams.
shareIt was family relations. He was Andrea Martin's brother-in-law.
shareTop 5:
1) Martin Short - "Jackie, We Hardly Knew Ye.", with Short as Jackie Rogers Sr & Jr, is the greatest 7 minutes in the history of television.
2) Rick Moranis - provided a huge artistic shot in the arm when he joined in 1980. Show was stagnating and he stepped up the concepts and immitations to new heights.
3) John Candy - He would have been number 1, but as great as he was on SCTV, he was better in movies during post SCTV career.
4) Catherine O'Hara - "I want to have your babies! HA HA HA!" Lola Heatherton was a dream.
5) Dave Thomas - I loved the McKenzie Brothers, so Dave makes the top 5 just beating out...
Middle 1:
6) Andrea Martin - very talented. Better than any of the women on SNL (except for Radner, Hooks, & Oteri).
Bottom 5:
7) Eugene Levy - Doesn't belong in the "Bottom" anything, but there aren't enough spots in the top five.
8) Joe Flaherty - Same as above. "He blowed up REAL good!"
9) Harold Ramis - I never really liked his characters too much on SCTV. But "Who ya gonna call?"
10) Robin Duke - Doesn't Count
11) Tony Rosato - Doesn't Count
eugene levy and john candy were the best. i have to agree with you as far as short is concerned - don't forget ed grimley or brock linehan either...
"today... I, brock linehan... goes home"
This topic is silly. They were all brilliant performers. With comedy, so much is subjective so maybe you didn't find one as funny as another, but they are all great comedians who should have done much better after SCTV. For me, the funniest are Andrea Martin and Martin Short. All their characters are hysterical. I didn't laugh much at John Candy, but I know he was a great comedian too and more to other people's taste.
