Any info on DVD's for original SCTV?

Now that all of the 90 minute "Network 90" episodes are out on DVD, has anyone heard anything about plans to release the original 30 minute shows that aired from 76-81? Not to mention the final season of 45 minute episodes that aired in 1984. All of SCTV needs to be on DVD!

I'm sorry friend, but I am afraid that the NBC "Network 90" episodes are all that we're going to be seeing on DVD. The first 30 minute shows were first aired in syndication, and the final 45 minute shows aired on Cinemax, and everybody knows that for shows that air in first-run syndication or on cable, the footage of the episodes tends to get lost or destroyed.

Somehow I have trouble believing that. Someone else said that the producers of the DVD's had stated somewhere that all of the episodes, including the original 30 minute eps would eventually be released on DVD, they had just decided to release the "Network 90" ones first. I was merely asking if anyone had heard any further information as to a possible release of these episodes. If this footage had been "lost or destroyed" as you claim, I'm sure they wouldn't have made the claim that it would eventually be released.

I know of many shows that aired in either syndication or cable that have been released on DVD so your theory is not really valid.

The next DVD release should be the original 30 minute show. The reason it has not been released yet is because the staff of the original show took too much liberty with the music they used.

BMI and ASCAP regulate payment for music writers/performers whenever music is used in a TV show or movie. SCTV never accounted for ANY of the music they used, they just threw it into the show. This includes the original theme to SCTV which was actually a Spike Jones skit, the music from which was used without permission.

Once the littigation is done (it may already be) and a deal has been made, the DVD release can go forward.

Thanks Zeta for that information, that's at least a much more encouraging reply than pooka's.

Actually, I'm not all that wrong on the last post. The '76-'81 shows did air on a national network: Global.

I found out straight from www.sctvguide.ca. I wish it would'nt come out that long from now(6 months or so). I'm really excited about this! I just hope they don't delete the "Cisco Kid" wraparound.

Oh, finally! My brother and I were just talking about this the other day. Glad they're going to release the early ones.

I just saw a compilation at Best Buy called "SCTV The Early Years." So I picked it up, and made note that it contains 15 episodes from what I believe was the 2nd season.

I am waiting with crossed fingers for the 1st season to be released, and for a second I thought that's what I was holding, but Harold Ramis is not listed anywhere on the packaging so that can't be it.

Does anyone know if they're still in litigation? Music rights are a serious thing, but I can't imagine that they didn't reach some sort of agreement with BMI/ASCAP by now.

SCTV:The early years are episodes taken from season 2 and 3. There has been no word on a season 1 release. Originally there was suppose to be a season 3 set but sales were'nt so good with the season 5 dvd so they put this best of early years instead. [email protected] should help you with ya question tho.
