Thinking of buying the box set

I've read the Palliser's is one of the best series costume dramas ever. They have it on Amazon for 120 USA and I just wanted to know if everyone liked it. I don't want to purchase it and realize it's terrible.

From what I seen written about the series I guess I can't go wrong in buying the box set.

Costume Dramas are my favorite and the box set has 1300 minutes of it.

I love the Pallisers. I'd never heard of it until someone mentioned on the Upstairs, Downstairs yahoo group that it was a good series. I didn't read Trollope's novels, on which the series is based, until I'd seen the series. I also love costume dramas, and it is indeed a feast for the eyes. If you like Upstairs, Downstairs, Forsyte Saga (I'm referring to the 60s version; haven't seen the more recent one), or others in a similiar vein, you'll like this one.

If you like period pieces, costume dramas, and meticulous BBC dramatic renditions, this is the series to watch! I loved every minute of it both times I watched it. I have to wait another year or two to watch it again so I give myself appropriate time to forget some things and be happily surprised when they come on the screen!! (I do this with all my fave series). I give The Pallisers one of the highest ratings! Hope you L*O*V*E it!

I own the set on DVD, and I gave my father the VHS set for Christmas a few years back.

It is, in my not-so-humble opinion, the single best series the BBC ever did. It is true to the books, and the production values are better than anything else that came out of that period. The costumes are gorgeous. I used to drool over Susan Hampshire's wardrobe! The cast is stellar too, and includes Derek Jacobi, Anna Massey, Penelope Keith, Anthony Andrews (Lord Stockbridge in Upstairs, Downstairs), Jeremy Irons and Moray Watson, to name but a few.

And, speaking of Susan Hampshire, there is an interview with her that is presented in parts -- one part for each set of discs.

It's well worth owning. I love this series!

PS -- a bit of trivia about this series. Anyone who listened to British rock music in the 60s has heard of the duo Chad and Jeremy. Well, Jeremy Clyde of Chad and Jeremy played Gerard Maule (Adelaide Palliser's fiance) in this series.

I loved the comic relief that Gerard & Adelaide provided; he was such a scoundrel, and Adelaide wanted to be one, lol. They reminded me of Rev. Emilius & Lizzy Eustace...

Only Gerard and Adelaide were much nicer people than Emilius and Lizzy.

Agree whole-heartedly.

Well by now you've likely bought it (or not) but you can always rent it on Netflix in advance of buying it (or not).

You've probably already decided to purchase this incredible series, which I've just viewed for the fifth time. The Pallisers ranks among the finest BBC adaptations of literature. The marvelous cast, attention to minute details, and excellent script brilliantly captures the novels. Susan Hampshire and Philip Latham exhibit a subtle chemistry, as they portray the tensions, then growing love between Glencora and Plantagenet. The supporting cast comprise some of Britain's finest actors across several generations. In the current drought of quality dramas, what bliss to be able to watch the BBC's heyday whenever I need it.

We've just finished watching it for the first time and loved every minute of it, fantabulous! One of the best without a doubt. :)

Cheers!
