DVD ???

Anyone think there's a real chance of an "official" DVD being made? I really don't want to spend money on a DVD set that looks and sounds like crap.

To be honest maryb, I can't see them releasing an official DVD set of the show, not after all this time - but 'never, say never', eh?
However, I do feel that the series was cut short; is inclusive, so maybe that is why NBC may have thought it a good enough reason not to.
I think, that you do take a chance if you buy 'copies', but I must say that sometimes this can be worthwhile, for I acquired the series, via someone on e-bay, back last year.
The guy I got them from, was very up front, and informed me that they wouldn't be current dvd quality; I guess they're more on a par with VHS. The episodes, obviously, having been sourced from various places do vary in quality, but on the whole they are good. The set was well presented, with the 10 discs having pictures from the show, printed on them, and in a case built to properly accomodate them.
I'm pleased that I have them, as they enabled me to 'revisit' a childhood; well, teenage, favourite.
I wish you luck in your continued search.
Kind regards,

In reply to your enquiry regarding a DVD release of this series 'Man From Atlantis' is listed on the raretelevision.com website as a five disc title, something I have recently bought myself. It's great stuff and brings back such happy childhood memories of watching it on its original transmission!

Both the movies and the television series are available from Warnerarchive on a made-to-order basis. www.warnerarchive.com.

I own a number of videos from Warner and have been very pleased with their quality. They are not copies of tapes, but remastered from the original films/negatives.

The reason that Warner has taken this route, rather than release "pressed" versions of the DVDs is because of the limited appeal of many of these archive films and TV series.

The first TV movie has just been released via Warner Archive:

Mine arrived from Amazon today. It's a two-disc set of of the pilot film and three subsequent movies made before the weekly series was established. According to the web sources discussed above, there will also be a second volume with all of the weekly episodes. The pilot film has been remastered, and is an improvement on the original VHS and DVD releases.

I now have the series set as well, and it is also well mastered. I wouldn't know it was an on-demand publication from the look and sound. I think this is as good as we will ever get, and it's perfectly good. Al you could hope for would be bonus features such as cast interviews.
