Why Only One Season?

Does anyone know why they didn't make a second season of MAN FROM ATLANTIS?

reply

Because it was boring. I hate to say that because I've always loved scifi. But I remember this show when it was on and not getting into it at all. The only appeal it had for me was Belinda Montgomery.

I never met Patrick Duffy but I would imagine that career wise the two best things that ever happened to him were getting this role, because steady work for a young actor is important, and the show getting cancelled, which freed him up for Dallas.

I remember the TV movie being really good but the actual series was a real disappointment for me.

'Why Only One Season?'

NBC was trying to cashing in on the $6 Million Man craze.

The title is Man From Atlantis. Say that or think about that. S-F fans now want to see Atlantis. That never happened.

What happened? Mark Harris the last known survivor of Atlantis is found by the US government. He is made a US secret agent assigned to a US top secret submarine. Looking for Atlantis. They never find Atlantis.

They find super villains, parallel dimensions/time travel all sorts of things on land and sea ... but no Atlantis.

Low ratings, pure and simple. It was a nice idea, but the series never capitalized on that and the viewership dropped, after the pilot.

"Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!"

Bought the series on DVD. Hadn't seen it since I was maybe 6. I've only watched the pilot & 2 episodes but...it could have been better. The pilot is pretty good but what I've seen of the series is pretty weak. It reminds me of a Saturday morning cartoon. Just kind of silly which is a shame because I think the show had potential. The underwater swimming scenes are well done but the weekly menaces were lacking. Mr Schubert has been in every episode I've seen so far.

Should have been better.

The Atlanteans were worried people might start to figure out where Atlantis was.
