Sole Survivor

Tonight, I watched the episode from January 1978, in which Joe wakes up in a hospital and is told that it is January 1979.

Yes, it's the one where Joe is kidnapped and told it's a year later so he'll reveal some top secret information to nasty old German Spies. They used the same plot on Airwolf a few years later. At least, Airwolf had the saving grace of a big action finale where Airwolf was used to blow up the baddies. Hardy Boys didn't have that luxury.

I disliked this episode as a kid and seeing it now (nearly thirty years later) reminds me of why I disliked it. One of the show's considerable strengths is the chemisty between Frank & Joe. The show is at it's best when they are on screen (together) trying to solve a puzzle or convince some doubting lawman that something is afoot. Split them up (or worst yet, leave Parker Stevenson out altogether) and you have a show that is a lot less fun to watch. Guest star Jean Marie Hon was easy on the eye, but Joe's just not Joe without Frank. At this stage in the run, I feel, the best episodes are behind me (sigh). I have fond very memories of VooDoo Doll (even if it has the faux Nancy) but I think from here on in, most episodes are weak.

This episode was okay if a bit way out.

I was okay with Joe and Frank being apart. It's not like it happens all that often.

Nah, nothing wrong with that. Shows you've got heart, I guess.

Can't think of a HB episode that would make me tear up, but there are countless other shows...

"Just finished watching this episode and the best thing about it was easily Jean Marie Hon...good gawd she is the hottest Asian woman I've ever laid my eyes on! Too bad she didn't go on to do more TV/Movies."

If you want to see more of Jean Marie Hon, buy/rent the series 'Ark II', which she is a costar. She appears on the documentary for the show, and now in her 50's she is still very attractive.

My head hurts, my teeth itch, my feet stink, and I don't love Jesus.

This episode was sooo weird! Plus, I couldn't stand the parts where Frank felt sorry for not saying or doing some things with Joe. I know they are brothers, and they love eachother and all, but...it just annoyed me.

~EDIT~ I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, this is just what I thought. *Blushes embarrastly*

I've lost two brothers and can tell you that was pretty realistic, you can't help but have regrets sometimes, however silly.
It takes time to get over a loss of someone like that.
