I can't believe Grage Hill is finishing. I used to watch this after school, it was so good back in late 90's and early 00's. I know it's supposed 'hey days' were late 80's and early 90's, but I obviously don't remember it from back then.
Yeah, good old BBC. Instead of respecting and holding onto the great shows it built its name on once again they turn their backs and walk away..SHAME ON THEM!!! I grew up with this show and whilst it was unlike any real school, they never seemed to have lessons...so much spare time!!! it was still avid viewing. Instead the BBC are going for the cheap option and will be filling the kids line up with more cartoons (particularly foreign ones). The rot started when they abandoned the broom cupboard and instead of employing decent presenters with a degree of talent/maturity such as Pip Schofield, Andy Crane and...the last great one...Chris Jarvis (trainspotter!) they opten for annoying "trendy", noisy youngsters who couldnt keep still and had a total air of "look at me" about them, you could tell they had no interest and had been told by their agents "it was a springboard to other presenting, get yourself noticed, great experience". Now its the women on Milkshake on Ch5 who have adopted the whole broomcupboard feel and are carrying the mantle.
Poor Grange Hill, the names are etched in my head forever, Mr Bronson, Ro-Land, Gonch, Mrs McCluskey, Zammo....legends. It was a breeding ground for young talent who went on to other things, where are all the young stage school stars going to go next, well done BBC...kill a national institution and a breeding ground for your future talent...idiots.
I completely agree with you, they should have kept it going - I am only just getting over the fact that Byker Grove was apparently axed in 2006 (I only found out 2 wks ago). I also agree with you on the whole presenters aspect - OMG the beatings I would love to give Angelica! Even Fern Cotton was annoying on CBBC (yet I don't mind her any other time). The same with Reggie Yates - he could be ace, yet everytime he steps near CBBC he turns into a complete TWAT! The only one I don't mind is the fit lad who used to be in Byker Grove - he wasn't a bad presenter and quite nice to look at. Other than him though, I don't think there has been much decent on BBC for kids since Live And Kicking (TOTP Reloaded with Sam, Mark and Fern was just terrible!!)
ITV aint much better though, they have had to scrap CITV completely 'cos it became completely *beep* and Saturday mornings were tarnished with the sad 'SMTV Wannabe' Ministry Of Mayhem (M.O.M) - what was Holly Willoughby thinking?!?!
Let's face it, kids TV just aint the same - even Disney and Nickleoden can't produce the classics such as Teen Angel, Kenan and Kel, Clarissa, Sabrina, Sister Sister, Saved By The Bell, Even Stevens, Boy Meets World etc. anymore.
