Over the Hill?

The BBC have just announced that the series is to end.

Was just going to post something.... And the Fans forum is down (again).

Shame... And the timing ... just a day or two before the 30th anniversary. The reason given that Grange Hill isn't contemporary, but it's surely able to be as contemporary as it needs to be, or aren't kids going to school any more? Grange Hill is a vehicle for drama, which can be as relevant as the writers and producers want.

Last year probably had very low audience figures, but what would you expect when it was shown just once, and only on CBBC at a time when the Freeview take up was still comparatively low. It also was by a long way the worst series of the programme that I can remember, with a ludicrously low staff count, a repeated storyline, and an unnecessary death. I appreciate I am contradicting myself here... but whatever ailed the show in Series 30 doesn't have to be a permanent problem. From what I hear though, Series 31, which will be the last, is going to be something aimed at younger kids, heaven knows why when there's virtually nothing for the 11-15 age range.

By contrast, other CBBC shows are repeated dozens of times in a year. I'd conclude that they wanted it dead.

The Daily Mail implied that because of what has been happening in real schools recently, the original concept of "grange hill" could not possibly keep realism unless it was moved til ten o'clock at night. Unfortunatly I do understand what they are saying.

Well, yes, I mean surely not all schools have stabbings and violence erupting every five seconds do they? Or is the point that *NO* teenagers watch television any more? It might be that the tag "CBBC" stops teenagers watching that channel by its very name.

You could be right. Although "Sarah Jane Adventures" seemed to do alright from the "doctor who" fan base.
