It's funny how many people think this show ended in 1990!

Seriously. Most people over 30 think "Grange Hill? I remember when that used to come on!".

But then again, the show never really got a high profile as it did in the 1980s...

Until I got on the internet a few years ago, I thought the show ended around the time when the CBC stopped carrying it here in Canada: around '83 or '84.....

It has just been announced that it's ending this year.

For me, it did end in the 1990's. Once they changed the credits and lsot a lot of the established cast members it was dull and I am glad it's going. They should have decided to end it in 1998 not 2008.

Make that '88--'relevant' youth shows can only stay relevant in eras and environments where real-life youth and their concerns are comparable to those of the show's original characters and their plights. Can you imagine a U.S. show like Fame lasting into the grungy early '90s? Canada's Degrassi (Juniour) High went off the air just in time in the spring of '91. I can't imagine the show coexisting with Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love--it was having enough problems adjusting to Bart Simpson and Laura Palmer's corpse. Similarly--and sadly, Grange Hill should have died off with The Clash, if not The Jam.
