Where was 'Mr Bronsons' name coined up from?

Ive always wondered this, i reckon it was influenced from the Hollywood actor Charles Bronson, considering Charles Bronsons characters in movies were cold calm and tough, which Mr Bronsons character seems to be (but more tough in bark of course rather than in bite lol)

Remember that scene where Danny Kendall is found dead in his car? They should have changed it so it happens on school premises. Bronson gets in in front of all the horrified pupils and teachers and says "I'm just taking out the trash!"

It's an interesting question - perhaps you are right, I think the Charles Bronson thing was alluded to (in the stories). I think often there are private jokes in the naming. Some of the names seem to mirror the locations used in Series 3 and 4, but yet this doesn't quite make sense. E.g. Doyle Gardens where the S3 school was - Michael Doyle. Also Robson Avenue, Peter Avenue, Donnington Road (or something) nearby - Calley Donnington, and Peter Robson.

Phil Redmond had a little joke in the Liverpool move - the new characters in Series 26 have the initials and similar names to those in Series One. Trisha Yates (sister Carol, Jenny) - Tanya Young (sister Karen, Jenny), Patrick Togger Johnson - Peter Tucker Jenkins. Jeremy Bishop - Justin Bennett, Ann Wilson (Does anyone know Ann Wilson) - Annie Wainwright, both late. Oh and Judy Preston moves a few miles to become Emma Bolton! Benny Green - Abel Benson, not quite so slick that one.

I met the man himself a few years ago in Swindon, Michael Sheard just by chance, he was wearing the wig collecting money for charity. I asked him where the name "Bronson" came from and he told me that only Phil Redmond knew.

I have my own theory though, in the mid 1970's another actor - Peter Copley played a character called Schoolmaster Bronson in "Survivors". Later on Peter Copley appeared alongside Michael Sheard in Doctor Who - Pyramids of Mars. Perhaps Phil Redmond first saw him in this and came up with the idea from Survivors?

If the real Charles bronson was on Grange Hill he would made sure that the kids in that school would be on school on time.
